About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to be a
foundational member of a new, high‐priority data team.
You will play a critical
role in architecting and implementing the data models and pipelines that power
analytics, data science, and reporting across the organisation.
You will design and maintain robust data ingestion
frameworks, build automated data quality systems and frameworks, and ensure our
data infrastructure is scalable, secure,



and reliable.
This role is ideal for someone who wants end‐to‐end
ownership of data architecture and significant influence over the way modern,
data‐driven regulatory technology is built and operated.
What You'll Do
- Architect,
design, and implement enterprise‐grade data models to support data
science, reporting, operational analytics, and change data capture.
- Select
and implement data storage technologies, modelling patterns, and
optimisation strategies.
- Establish
and maintain scalable, repeatable ingestion frameworks for structured and
unstructured data.
- Build
services and pipelines that reliably process model outputs and upstream
data sources.
- Build
and maintain automated data quality checks, monitoring, and reporting
systems.
- Champion
engineering excellence in data reliability, integrity, observability, and
maintainability.
- Work
closely with data scientists to design datasets optimised for machine
learning and analytics.
- Transform
and serve model outputs for downstream use.
About the Team
This role sits within NSW Fair Trading's Data and Analytics
team.
The team delivers modern data and reporting solutions that enhance
regulatory insight, operational performance, and customer experience through
data‐driven innovation.
About You
You are a Senior Data Engineer (3+ years) who enjoys taking
technical ownership from design through to production.
You want to help define
how a new data‐driven regulatory platform is built and operated.
You are eager to leverage modern AI‐aware data tooling and
scalable data engineering patterns and are motivated by public impact and
improving government and community outcomes.
- Cloud‐native data engineering (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
- Modern




data orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Prefect, Dagster)
- SQL,
Python, and data‐focused frameworks
- Designing
and maintaining ingestion pipelines, data models, and transformation
workflows
- Collaborating
with data scientists and analysts
