The opportunity
As Senior Payroll Officer, you will help deliver an accurate and timely fortnightly payroll for Council's workforce.
Working closely with the Payroll Team Leader, Payroll team, HR Business Partners and business leaders, you will run an end to end payroll and, provide advice on complex payroll matters, award and certified agreement interpretation, rostering and workforce management practices.
You will also support the ongoing performance and improvement of Council's Human Capital Management solutions, particularly the Dayforce Time & Attendance platform and its automated award interpretation functionality.
Key responsibilities
Support the accurate and timely delivery of Council's fortnightly payroll
Interpret and apply awards, certified agreements, legislation, policies and procedures
Investigate complex pay anomalies and calculate payments for special work arrangements
Provide advice on salary sacrifice, superannuation, rostering and workforce management
Partner with leaders and HR Business Partners to resolve payroll matters
Support and improve the Dayforce Time & Attendance and SAP Success Factors solutions.
Prepare termination and separation payments and associated documentation
Produce payroll and workforce reports for internal stakeholders and auditors
Develop and maintain payroll procedures, guidelines and work instructions
Contribute to payroll improvement initiatives and broader organisational projects
About you
You are an experienced payroll professional with strong technical knowledge, sound judgement and exceptional attention to detail.
You can interpret complex employment conditions, investigate discrepancies and communicate payroll information clearly.
To be successful, you will bring:
Substantial payroll experience within a medium to large organisation
A Diploma in Human Resource Management, Payroll Administration or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience
Robust knowledge of payroll legislation, awards, certified agreements and regulatory requirements
Experience investigating and resolving complex payroll matters
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Professional communication skills and a customer-focused approach
Confidence using contemporary payroll, HR and reporting systems
Proficiency across Microsoft Office and other business technologies
Experience with SAP SuccessFactors and Dayforce will be highly regarded.
