Where you'll be working:
The Engineering Department at John Hunter Hospital is a large, skilled team of 51 staff responsible for maintaining critical infrastructure across the hospital campus.
The department delivers both reactive and planned maintenance for all buildings on site, supporting a complex, fast-paced healthcare environment where reliability truly matters.

You'll be working alongside experienced tradespeople who take pride in their work, look out for one another, and understand the importance of keeping essential hospital systems operating safely for patients, staff, and visitors.
About the role:
As a Mechanical Fitter within the Fitting team (5 staff), you'll be responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of mechanical systems and equipment across the John Hunter campus and its ancillary buildings.
A typical day may include:
Reactive breakdown repairs and fault finding
Preventive and scheduled maintenance
Working on air conditioning and pumping systems
General fitting and metalwork tasks
Repairs and modifications to hospital equipment such as trolleys, IV poles, patient beds, and wheelchairs
Working across plant rooms and clinical support areas




You'll report to the Mechanical Supervisor and work closely with other trade-qualified mechanical staff, with strong support from the broader Engineering management team.
About you:
Non-negotiable:
TAFE Trades Certificate in Fitting and Machining or Certificate III in Mechanical Engineering and a tradesman's certificate of proficiency.
Highly regarded:
Post-trade qualifications
Experience working in large, complex facilities (healthcare or similar environments)
