Role Overview Comm Bank’s Business Bank (BB) is looking for an Asset Finance Specialist to join and contribute to our Business Lending team. Our Business Bank manages relationships with Commonwealth Bank’s small‑medium enterprise customers, mid‑market corporate customers, and regional and agribusiness customers, providing a wide range of financial services and solutions.
Within BB, the Business Lending team (BL) is a product and specialised sales team that offers working capital, business loans, asset finance, corporate finance, and property finance to our customers. Who we are looking for Relationship builders, passionate about nurturing a Business Banking customer base. Possess strong business development skills, regularly seeking current opportunities. Location The role is based in South Australia or Darwin (Northern Territory) and will involve travel to maintain and strengthen customer relationships. Responsibilities As the Asset Finance Specialist, you will generate Asset Finance opportunities with existing and new-to-bank clients across a broad range of asset classes.
The focus of the role is to develop and implement sales strategies that proactively generate opportunities that will grow market share. Provide specialist advice to clients where capital assets are critical to generating revenue (e.g., production machinery, mining equipment, or fleet). Advise on financing of strategic assets, including structuring solutions to minimise capital outlay, align payments to income generation and provide flexibility for asset liquidation/disposal. Understand different asset types and the role they play in generating revenue for clients. Up‑skill and support Relationship Executives on the Asset Finance market and solutions regularly through team meetings, training sessions,
and one‑on‑one coaching. Assist clients and Relationship Executives with tax implications (including depreciation guidelines), titles, and loan structuring options, advising on the appropriate agreement type (finance lease, hire purchase equipment loan, or operating lease and rental facilities). Regularly review clients’ banking with CBA and identify opportunities for gaining or building on existing asset finance business, such as targeting clients with split banking to other banks. Win new-to-bank business by seeking referrals, contacting potential clients directly, and attending meetings with bankers.
Focus on industries with high dependency on asset‑integral operations. Follow up on asset finance opportunities by providing pricing information, structuring, and assisting the Asset Finance Centre & Asset Finance Operations to document loan agreements and gather required client information (e.g., supplier information, title of ownership, proof of insurance). Qualifications Previous experience in Business Banking, a Relationship Manager, or a business‑to‑business environment. Ability to view situations from a commercial or business perspective. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, including proficiency in MS Office suite. Experience creating compelling presentation materials that exude credibility and professionalism. Understanding of the sales cycle with the ability to turn asset finance enquiries into firm contracts. Knowledge of cash flow, working capital, capital expenditures, taxes, and regulations; ability to review and analyze financial statements and loan contracts. Basic knowledge of asset finance products offered through CBA or competitors (banks, captives, or specialist lenders) and an understanding of how asset management affects a business’s cash flow. Broad knowledge of asset‑heavy industries and geographical differences.
