Automation & Controls Engineer

- Take part on automation strategy at one of the most advanced, highly automated manufacturing sites in the country - not just maintain it, help shape where it goes next.
- Genuine pathway to technical leadership, backed by a long-tenured, highly capable team that genuinely invests in developing its people.
- Hands-on, floor-based role (not a desk-bound programming job) and a real say over a substantial pipeline of projects.

About the Opportunity

Our client is a large-scale, highly automated manufacturing operation - one of only a handful of its kind in Australia. Unlike most competitors, they manufacture the vast majority of their product range in-house, and it's a point of genuine pride across the business. With a strong pipeline of capital projects on the horizon and a long-tenured, highly capable engineering team (averaging 10+ years' service), this is a business that invests seriously in its people and in the technology that runs the plant.

Due to sustained growth in workload, they're looking to bring on a permanent Automation & Controls Engineer to take ownership of a substantial backlog of projects. You'll be joining a highly experienced, supportive team that is well placed to mentor and develop you further in the role.

The Role

This is a technical, hands-on position - you won't be sitting behind a screen all day. Expect to spend significant time on the floor, working closely with Maintenance, Quality and Safety teams to drive process improvement and efficiency gains across a busy priority list of projects. Over time,

there's genuine scope to grow into a technical leadership pathway and play a role in shaping automation strategy across the site.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide control systems and machine safety engineering expertise and support across the wider Operations team.
- Deliver PLC, SCADA and controls programming for process modifications and new projects.
- Manage and implement small to medium-sized projects and process improvements, working alongside other process and project engineers.
- Conduct fault-finding and provide breakdown support on higher-level faults.
- Conduct risk assessments and provide advice to minimise electrical, control systems and machine safety hazards.
- Manage contractors and ensure compliance with relevant standards, policies and legislation.
- Develop costings and forward budgets for control systems projects, monitoring spend and identifying cost-down opportunities.

What You'll Bring

- Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Industry-recognised accreditation in Machine Safety Engineering (essential).
- Strong experience with Siemens PLC and SCADA platforms.
- Robotics integration and commissioning experience.
- Background in an automated manufacturing setting.
- Australian Permanent Residency or Citizenship required.

What's on Offer

- Generally 7am-3pm hours, with flexibility (this role is based fully on-site).
- Free in office parking.
- Discounted on-site canteen.
- Salary sacrifice options and staff discounts across a range of retail partners.
- A genuine, long-term career pathway with a business that invests in developing its people, including exposure to a strong pipeline of future capital projects.
