Your recent role
The Senior Application Database Administrator will maintain the performance, reliability, and security of our DB2/SQL databases, while also planning and implementing upgrades, managing CICS services, and performing critical database maintenance tasks.
In this role you will
Administer and maintain IBM Db2 databases hosted on AWS RDS, ensuring high availability, security, and reliability. Configure and manage RDS instances, parameter groups, option groups, and storage configurations. Manage database provisioning, scaling, and lifecycle management across development, testing, and production environments.
Implement and maintain backup, restore, snapshot, and disaster recovery strategies using AWS RDS capabilities. Ensure database security and compliance through IAM integration, encryption, and access controls. Support database upgrades, patching, and maintenance windows in alignment with AWS best practices.
Monitor database performance using Amazon Cloud Watch, Enhanced Monitoring, and database diagnostic tools. Analyse database metrics, logs, and performance indicators to proactively detect and resolve issues. Support database releases, migrations,
and application deployments in cloud environments.
Assist development teams with DB2/SQL performance tuning, stored procedures, and data access optimization.
What you'll need to succeed
Extensive hands‑on experience administering IBM Db2 databases in enterprise environments. Strong understanding of Db2 architecture, storage structures, buffer pools, tablespaces, and indexing strategies. Experience with Db2 performance tuning, query optimization, and workload management.
Experience managing Db2 on Linux/Unix/Windows (LUW) and/or Db2 on z/OS environments. Hands‑on experience with cloud database platforms such as AWS RDS for Db2/SQL, Azure, or IBM Cloud. Familiarity with high availability and disaster recovery solutions including HADR, replication, backup and restore strategies.
Experience in installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, and migrations of Db2/SQL environments. Expertise in backup/recovery procedures, database maintenance utilities, and capacity planning.
