About the position

The University Ombudsman provides a confidential, impartial and independent service that supports the early resolution of concerns, promotes procedural fairness and identifies opportunities to strengthen organisational culture and governance.

This is a unique chance to influence positive change across the University by building trust, resolving complex issues and providing strategic advice on emerging and systemic matters.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have:
Extensive experience managing highly confidential and sensitive matters.
Exceptional judgement, diplomacy and emotional intelligence.
Demonstrated experience in mediation, conflict resolution, restorative practice or organisational dispute resolution.
The ability to provide trusted advice to senior executives and governing bodies.
Solid analytical skills with the ability to identify systemic issues and recommend practical organisational improvements.




Outstanding communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
A commitment to fairness, procedural justice, inclusion and ethical leadership.

Key Responsibilities

As University Ombudsman you will:
Provide confidential, impartial guidance on complex workplace and academic concerns.
Facilitate the early and informal resolution of disputes through coaching, mediation and facilitated conversations.
Build trusted relationships across all levels of the University while maintaining complete independence and neutrality.
Identify recurring themes and systemic issues and provide strategic advice to the Vice-Chancellor and University leadership.
Develop annual reports and recommendations that strengthen governance, culture and organisational effectiveness.
Promote awareness of respectful conflict resolution, procedural fairness and effective communication.
