Brighton Council’s Works Services team is growing, and we’re looking for an experienced and motivated reserves, parks and horticultural maintenance professional to join us as our Works Supervisor (Reserves).

This leadership role is based at the Works Depot in Bridgewater and plays a key part in delivering safe, efficient and high-quality reserves, parks, gardens, streetscape and sportsground maintenance services for our community.

The Role: Reporting to the Manager Works Services, this position is responsible for supervising and coordinating the day-to-day delivery of Council’s reserves, parks, open-space and horticultural maintenance functions, working collaboratively with the Works Supervisor (Civil) across the Works Services program.

Key responsibilities include:

- Programming, planning and delivering operational and maintenance activities across horticulture, parks, gardens, reserves, streetscapes, turf management and sportsground maintenance.
- Coordinating day-to-day reserves operations to ensure the effective upkeep, presentation, safety and functionality of Council’s open-space assets.
- Supervising staff, contractors, plant and equipment allocation to ensure reserves and open-space works are delivered safely, efficiently, on time and within budget.
- Conducting site assessments, inspections and maintenance planning, including turf and soil evaluations, irrigation checks, planting plans, specifications and cost estimates.
- Identifying and addressing defects, hazards and maintenance requirements across reserves, parks, sportsgrounds and associated open-space assets.
- Monitoring worksites for safety, quality, environmental presentation and compliance,



ensuring WHS obligations and Council procedures are followed.
- Maintaining strong communication with Council staff, contractors, suppliers, community members and external stakeholders to support positive, customer-focused outcomes.

About You

You hold a Certificate III or higher in Horticulture, Parks and Gardens or a related field and bring at least five (5) years’ experience in parks, reserves and open-space maintenance within local government or a comparable environment.

You have strong technical knowledge of parks, gardens, reserves, streetscapes and sportsgrounds, including irrigation systems, turf care, landscape installation, reserve asset inspections, defect identification and interpreting plans and maintenance schedules.

You demonstrate the ability to supervise, develop and coordinate staff and contractors, consistently achieving safe, efficient and high-quality outcomes through excellent leadership, practical problem-solving and a ‘lead by example’ approach.

You have a sound understanding of WHS, risk management and public safety requirements relevant to reserves, parks, sportsgrounds, chemical use, machinery operation and public-facing worksites, and you hold a current unrestricted driver’s licence.

Required or desirable licences and credentials include a current White Card, Chainsaw Licence,



First Aid certification, Safety at Roadworks Accreditation including Implement Traffic Control Plans, and a current Working with Vulnerable Persons Card, or the capacity to obtain relevant requirements prior to commencement.

Position Details

- Hours: Full-Time - A typical working week is Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 4.30pm (30 minutes lunch), noting the Friday worked hours are 7.30am to 4.00pm, allowing for a 9-day fortnight.
- Salary: Professional Level 2: $96,989 to $107,206 per annum – to be negotiated with the successful candidate and will be dependent on qualifications and experience. This position will include a commuter use vehicle and will attract a 15.5% superannuation entitlement.
