About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and influential HSE Coordinator / Senior HSE Coordinator to act as Harrold & Kite’s lead for health, safety and environmental matters.
Reporting directly to the executive team, you will partner with the Chief Executive Officer, Project Directors, Construction Manager, Project Managers, Site Managers and project teams to provide strategic and operational HSE advice and support across the business.
You will be responsible for maintaining and improving the Company’s HSE Management System, supporting legislative compliance and providing visible leadership across our commercial construction projects.
This is a hands-on position suited to an experienced construction HSE professional who can work independently, influence at all levels of the business and provide practical solutions in a dynamic project environment.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Coordinate the implementation, maintenance and review of Harrold & Kite's HSE Management System, policies and procedures.
- Act as the primary contact for HSE matters and provide practical advice to management, project teams, employees and subcontractors.
- Promote a positive safety culture.
- Provide visible HSE leadership, coaching and support across Company workplaces and project sites.
- Work with project teams to integrate HSE requirements into project planning and delivery.
- Develop, review and approve project WHS and environmental management plans, risk assessments, critical controls, SWMS, permits and plant risk assessments.
- Conduct and oversee site inspections, audits and compliance reviews, and recommend improvements to risk controls.
- Support subcontractor prequalification and onboarding, and verify licences,
competencies, inductions and required compliance documentation.
- Lead the safety committee and develop and deliver toolbox meetings, safety alerts, training and awareness initiatives.
- Lead or oversee incident, injury and near-miss investigations, including reporting, root-cause analysis and regulator liaison where authorised.
- Monitor corrective actions arising from incidents, inspections and audits through to verified close-out.
- Support injury management, return-to-work arrangements, emergency planning and emergency exercises.
- Monitor HSE performance, analyse trends and report risks, compliance matters and improvement priorities to senior management.
- Advise on construction-related environmental risks, support ISO-aligned management systems and represent Harrold & Kite during external audits and regulatory interactions.
- Maintain current knowledge of legislative and industry developments, implement targeted HSE improvements and coordinate the maintenance of safety plant and equipment.
About You
You will be an experienced construction HSE professional with the confidence and credibility to advise senior management and influence operational teams.
You will ideally have:
- Experience in an Senior HSE Coordinator/HSE Coordinator, Safety Coordinator/Advisor or comparable role.
- Demonstrated experience within commercial construction.
- Cert IV in Work Health & Safety or a higher relevant qualification.
- Comprehensive knowledge of South Australian WHS legislation, construction requirements, relevant Codes of Practice and best practice.
- Strong experience conducting audits, investigations and critical risk reviews.
- Demonstrated experience managing incidents and completing root-cause investigations.
- Experience developing, implementing and improving HSE management systems.
- Sound knowledge of contractor management and high-risk construction work requirements.
- An understanding of environmental management principles and construction-related environmental risks.
- Solid ability to successfully communicate and collaborate with site and HSE teams.
- Strong written communication, reporting and presentation skills.
- Well-developed analytical, problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- The ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement and escalate significant risks appropriately.
- Strong computer, data-analysis and reporting skills.
- A current Construction Industry White Card.
- A current Australian Driver’s Licence.
Experience or qualifications in ICAM or equivalent incident investigation, internal or lead auditing, injury management, training and assessment, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 would be highly regarded.
Experience using Hammertech or a comparable electronic HSE management system would also be advantageous.
