Job Title: School Counsellor – Griffith High School

Total Remuneration Package: up to $182,461, base salary $101,122–$160,983, plus leave loading and superannuation.
Overview
School counsellors are an essential part of the department’s School Counselling Service. They provide counselling and psychological assessment of students, complementing and enhancing teacher work to strengthen student learning and wellbeing outcomes. The role offers opportunities to work across the lifespan with primary and high school‑aged students and to collaborate with school communities, colleagues and outside agencies.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will: provide individual counselling to students; conduct psychological assessments, case formulation and report writing; collaborate with teachers, parents and external agencies to improve learning and wellbeing outcomes; participate in regular professional supervision and peer supervision; contribute to student support planning and multidisciplinary team meetings; support continuous professional development; and maintain professional registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.
Qualifications and Selection Criteria
- Experience in counselling using evidence‑based interventions with a demonstrated understanding of the mental health needs of children and young people.
- Experience in the psychological assessment of children and young people, including case formulation and report writing.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with key stakeholders to improve the learning and wellbeing outcomes of children and young people,
including students from diverse backgrounds and needs.
- Registered or provisionally registered psychologist, or eligible for registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.
- Valid, unrestricted driver’s licence and willingness to travel between work sites.
- Unconditional, full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education or eligibility to apply for approval to teach.
Conditions
- Position is under the Teachers award (Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2024).
- Eligible for rural and remote incentives.
- Potential one‑off recruitment payment of $20,000 (pro‑rata if part‑time).
