Flinders University is recruiting a Casual Placement Educator (Facilitation) in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. The role supports undergraduate and postgraduate nursing students during their qualified placement experiences across a range of clinical settings.
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with clinical venues and teams to secure quality learning experiences for students.
- Advocate for appropriate learning opportunities, allocate students to shifts and preceptors, and clarify students’ scope of practice.
- Navigate any issues or concerns that arise, seeking feedback on student progress and communicating regularly with Topic Coordinators and students.
- Attend pre‑clinical meetings for allocated students and conduct individual meetings of 2.5 hours per week (30 minutes per day) to review progress, facilitate reflective learning, and connect theory to practice.
- Provide ongoing, constructive feedback to students to optimise learning outcomes, recording each meeting, progress, discussion content and development plans.
- Develop and collaborate on Professional Learning Plans with students and Topic Coordinators.
- Mentor students on professional standards, attitudes, and attributes expected of a Registered Nurse.
- Complete assessment requirements for individual students, including Placement Assessment Records, Viva Voce, and attendance records.
Qualifications / Selection Criteria
- Hold an Australian Bachelor of Nursing Degree or a higher qualification.
- Be currently registered (or eligible to register) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Hold or be eligible for a Working with Children Check from the Department of Human Services – SA Government (or equivalent state requirement).
- Have a minimum of three years full‑time clinical experience.
- Have experience of teaching and learning in your role as a Registered Nurse.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills.
- Demonstrate problem‑solving, conflict‑resolution, and negotiation skills.
- Demonstrate knowledge and/or experience using technology such as Microsoft Office and interactive online platforms.
- Be willing to travel between clinical venues.
- Evidence of employment in a clinical education role is desirable.
- Holding a Graduate Diploma, Master’s or PhD in nursing or a related field is desirable.
