About The Service

Alice Springs Medicare Mental Health Centre provides the community an alternative to attend when experiencing mental health crisis, offering free, immediate, short and medium-term care to adults over 18 with no referral or appointment required. It runs a high-engagement, multi-disciplinary crisis model with a strong lived experience focus, taking referrals from GPs, public mental health services, emergency services, community organisations, and self-referrals, with extended opening hours. Staffing spans cultural, clinical and lived experience roles.

About The Position

The Mental Health Clinician provides high quality, person-centred care as part of a transdisciplinary team, supporting the wellbeing and safety of adults experiencing a mental health crisis or significant distress.
Working alongside clinical, cultural and lived experience colleagues,



you will undertake comprehensive mental health assessments, provide brief interventions and crisis support, complete safety and immediacy planning, and link guests with appropriate community and health services. You will play a key role in screening referrals, assessing individual needs and coordinating warm handovers with partner providers.
You will deliver services in a way that reflects the principles of Cultural Safety, Trauma Informed Care and Recovery Oriented practice, and contribute to shaping a brand-new service as part of its foundation team.

What you will bring to the role

- Formal tertiary qualifications in Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or related
- Current full registration as a Registered Nurse with current annual practicing certificate from the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), OR
- Current full registration as a Psychologist or Occupational Therapist with current annual practicing certificate from the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), OR
- Current full registration as a Social Worker with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
- Counselling or Psychotherapy with current level 3 membership with ACA or clinical PACFA registration, where permitted within jurisdictional or program specific requirements.
- Proven experience at a clinical level within the area of mental health service delivery, including comprehensive mental health assessment, risk assessment and safety planning
- Demonstrated skill in the application of recovery-based approaches in a clinical setting
- Experience providing crisis support and brief interventions to people experiencing significant distress
- Experience working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, collaborating effectively with clinical, cultural and lived experience staff
- Excellent communication skills – computer literacy and written communication skills
- Experience and knowledge working with consumers that identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islande
