Bawinanga Homelands Aboriginal Corporation (BHAC) is a progressive Aboriginal corporation based in Maningrida. We represent and support approximately 4,000 Aboriginal people across 32 Homelands in West Arnhem Land. Our work is grounded in traditional lands, cultural practices, and languages.
An exciting opportunity exists for skilled and motivated People & Culture Coordinator to join our Head Office team based in Winnellie, Northern Territory.

The Role
As the People & Culture Coordinator, you will provide advanced operational, advisory, and administrative coordination across the entire employee lifecycle. Working with significant autonomy, you will balance P&C; operational excellence with key organisational support, functioning as an HRIS Champion, leading recruitment, supporting policy and L&D; initiatives, and delivering secondary payroll coverage.
Key Responsibilities
- People, Culture & Systems: Serve as a primary P&C; point of contact; act as the internal HRIS super-user driving system adoption, training, and data integrity.
- End-to-End Recruitment & Onboarding: Champion best-practice recruitment logistics from job posting and screening to offer letters, onboarding, and probation tracking.
- Payroll Support:
Act as Payroll back-up (running pay runs during leave and ad-hoc payrolls as required), supporting payroll compliance and managing the shared payroll mailbox.
- Policy & Compliance: Support policy drafting and review; track workforce compliance registers (clearances, licenses, certifications); advise on NES, awards, and enterprise agreements.
- L&D; & WHS: Coordinate staff training rollouts and support workers' compensation, return-to-work plans, and safety incident management.
About You
- Minimum Certificate IV in Human Resources or 3+ years of HR/P&C; experience.
- Hands-on experience supporting payroll operations and managing pay queries.
- Robust technical capability as an HRIS/Payroll system super-user or champion.
- Proven experience in full lifecycle recruitment, onboarding, and process improvement.
- Exceptional organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills with high discretion and confidentiality.
- Mandatory Clearances & Licences:
- Current Australian C-Class Driver's Licence.
- National Police Check.
- Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card) or ability to obtain.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Northern Land Council (NLC) permit.
- Ability to travel to Maningrida on small aircraft as required.
