Under RFQ LH-05209, ASD is seeking highly experienced Security Systems Engineers to work across multiple Australian Government entities, delivering security advice, engineering design, implementation and remediation activities. The work spans systems classified from OFFICIAL through to TOP SECRET, and requires engineers who are comfortable operating as trusted subject matter experts in sensitive, complex environments. This engagement supports ASD’s Cyber Security Remediation Program (CURP), which focuses on uplifting cyber maturity, reducing systemic risk and strengthening resilience across government systems.
Role in practice
As a Senior Security Systems Engineer, you will operate at both a technical and advisory level, often across several agencies or workstreams simultaneously.
Typical activities
- Providing specialist security engineering advice across complex ICT environments
- Designing and implementing security controls aligned with ASD’s Information Security Manual (ISM) , Essential Eight and other relevant standards
- Supporting remediation activities to address identified security gaps and risks
- Developing and maintaining technical documentation, including SOPs, design documentation, change requests and as-built / as-configured artefacts
- Facilitating and participating in technical workshops focused on security design, uplift and remediation
- Developing and testing prototype security configurations to inform guidance and decision-making
- Engaging with stakeholders ranging from hands-on technical teams through to senior executives
You will be expected to work with a high degree of autonomy while collaborating effectively within hybrid teams operating across locations and agencies.
Working arrangement
- Predominantly onsite
- Up to 40 hours per week
- Up to 2 x 12-month extensions
Security & suitability requirements
- You must already hold an active NV2 or TSPV clearance
- Candidates must be willing to undergo ASD’s Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA)
- ASD will not sponsor clearance upgrades for this role
