About the role

Join 6 South East, the Cardiothoracic Surgery and Respiratory Medicine Unit at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, City Campus.

The ward comprises 30 beds , including a 12-bed High Dependency Unit (HDU) , and provides specialist care for patients recovering from heart and lung surgery, as well as patients with complex respiratory medical conditions.

As a Registered Nurse on 6SE, you will have the opportunity to care for a diverse and complex patient cohort, develop advanced clinical skills, and work within a supportive team that values professional growth, collaboration, and excellence in patient care. Our nurses play a critical role in supporting patients and their families through their healthcare journey.

Key Accountabilities

Ensure the provision of high-quality patient care. This includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care in collaboration with 6 South East Multidisciplinary Team.




Advance your knowledge and clinical practice with access to professional development and education opportunities
Uphold The Melbourne Way core values and standards of practice.
Communicate effectively with 6 South East key stakeholders; Surgical Services Leadership, Digital Coordination Centre (DCC), Theatre, RMH Wards, the Emergency Department and Surgical and Medical Units.

About You

Minimum 2 years acute nursing experience.
Developed assessment, clinical reasoning, problem solving and prioritisation skills.
You have excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.
High motivation and willingness to learn.
High level of reliability and professional conduct.
Desirable: Clinical experience working in Cardiac Surgery, Thoracic Surgery or Respiratory Medicine
