About the Opportunity

The Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner (FDRP) provides Family Dispute Resolution (FDR) services in parenting, property and financial matters through solo mediation, co-mediation or gender-balanced mediation models.

The Perth Family Relationships Centre provides FDR services to separated or separating parents, supporting them to develop care arrangements that promote the best interests of their children. The Centre also assists separated or separating parties to work towards property and financial settlements.

The FDRP delivers child-focused, trauma-informed and culturally responsive services to clients, including individuals and families from culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) backgrounds.

The role supports the strengthening of family relationships by assisting clients to manage relationship difficulties and navigate separation in a safe, respectful and constructive manner.

The current vacancy is Max term Part-Time position, for leave cover for 18 months and up to 15 hours a week based from Family Relationship Centre Perth.

Responsibilities





- Provide FDR services through solo mediation, co-mediation or gender-balanced mediation models, in accordance with professional standards and legislative requirements.

- Assess client needs and suitability throughout the mediation process, including screening for family and domestic violence and coercive control, child protection concerns, drug and alcohol issues, and mental health concerns.

- Provide appropriate referrals to internal and external programs, services and specialist support providers.

- Apply effective mediator micro-communication skills to facilitate respectful, balanced and constructive communication between parties.

- Maintain accurate, timely and confidential client records in accordance with organisational and legal requirements.

- Complete mandatory documentation, including serious matters forms, joint session continuation forms and other required records.

- Draft parenting and property agreements, including schedules of assets and liabilities where required.

- Effectively manage an allocated client caseload and meet service delivery requirements.

- Maintain professional networks and liaise with stakeholders to support effective referral pathways and collaborative practice.

- Contribute to RAWA and MSC research, service development and continuous improvement activities, where required.

- Facilitate or contribute to community-based workshops on FDR and related topics as required by MSC.

Maintain Professional Knowledge and Skills





- Participate in individual clinical supervision provided by a senior FDRP or suitably qualified supervisor.

- Complete a minimum of 15 hours of relevant professional development, workshops or seminars each year, or as otherwise required for accreditation and registration.

- Participate in clinical group supervision or maintain familiarity with supervision notes and practice updates circulated to the team.

- Maintain current knowledge of trends, legislative changes, professional standards and practice developments within the family law and FDR sectors.

Essential:

- Relevant professional qualifications that meet the requirements for accreditation and registration as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner.

- Demonstrated understanding of current theory, practice and issues relating to FDR.

- Sound understanding of family and domestic violence, coercive control, child protection risks, mental health concerns, drug and alcohol misuse, and child-inclusive practice.

- Well-developed cultural awareness, cultural sensitivity and cross-cultural communication skills, including experience working with people from CaLD backgrounds.

- Competent information technology skills, including the use of Microsoft Office applications and client database systems.

- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a small team environment.

- Commitment to delivering high-quality, client-centred services.

- Current WA motor vehicle driver’s licence and access to a suitable vehicle.

Desirable:

- Fluency in a language other than English.

- Experience working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

- Prior experience of working as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner.

Pre-requisites:

- Current National Police Certificate

- Current right to work in Australia.
