Position Overview

Postdoctoral Fellow (Applied Economics) – School of Economics and Finance, Faculty of Business and Law, Queensland University of Technology. Fixed term, part‑time until 31 March 2028. Location: Gardens Point.

Remuneration: $96,342 to $130,727 per annum (inclusive of $81,410 to $110,466 salary, 17 % superannuation, 17.5 % recreation leave loading). Eligible applicants are current QUT staff with unrestricted work rights and Indigenous Australians and Torres Strait Islander people who are not QUT staff.

Key Responsibilities

- Undertake research on the impact assessment of new technologies in energy storage (including batteries) and general artificial intelligence.
- Analyse the global supply chain of these technologies.
- Apply for internal and external funding as guided by the supervisor.
- Other responsibilities as outlined in the Position document.

Required Qualifications

- PhD in Applied Economics or a closely related quantitative discipline.
- Strong record of high‑quality peer‑reviewed publications, evidence of lead or sole authorship.
- Experience applying economic evaluation methods, preferably in energy, manufacturing or trade supply‑chain contexts.
- Demonstrated or emerging research agenda on the economics of clean‑energy transitions, critical minerals, industrial supply chains and AI.




- Excellent communication skills across diverse audiences, including non‑specialist stakeholders.
- Strong knowledge and practical skills in data analysis, causal inference, econometrics and firm‑level or microdata.
- Commitment to equity, diversity and Indigenous Australian engagement.
- Entrepreneurial mindset, ability to work independently, identify research opportunities, engage with industry and commercial partners and familiarity with green finance, critical minerals investment or trade finance ecosystems.
