MSF Sugar is seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our 2027 Apprenticeship Program at our Mulgrave Central Mill, located just 20km south of Cairns.

If you have a strong mechanical aptitude, enjoy working with your hands, and are eager to learn, this is your opportunity to build a rewarding career in a heavy industrial setting. You'll receive comprehensive on-the-job training and mentoring from experienced tradespeople while working towards a nationally recognised trade qualification.

Our 2027 1st year apprenticeship opportunities include:

- Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade (Fitting)

- Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (Boilermaker)

What You'll Learn

Throughout your apprenticeship, you'll gain experience in:

- Maintaining, repairing, and overhauling heavy industrial machinery and equipment.

- Fabricating, welding, fitting, and assembling plant and structural components.

- Diagnosing mechanical faults and assisting with equipment breakdowns.

- Using engineering drawings, precision measuring equipment, and workshop tools.

- Working on pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, turbines, piping, and other mill equipment.





- Developing practical trade skills under the guidance of experienced Fitters and Boilermakers.

- Working safely in accordance with industry standards and safe work practices.

About You

We're looking for motivated individuals who are eager to learn and committed to building a successful trade career.

Ideally, you will have:

- Successfully completed Year 12, including Mathematics (A, B or C), English (or English Communications), and at least one Science, Engineering, or Industrial Technology subject; or

- Completed a Certificate II in Engineering Pathways, Certificate II in Engineering, or other relevant pre-vocational studies; or

- Relevant work experience demonstrating an interest in mechanical fitting, fabrication, or heavy industry.

- A genuine interest in becoming a qualified Mechanical Fitter or Boilermaker.

- A strong mechanical aptitude and an interest in engineering or manufacturing.

- A positive attitude and willingness to learn.

- A commitment to working safely at all times.

- Reliability, motivation, and a strong work ethic.

- The ability to work well independently and as part of a team.

- Good communication skills and a willingness to contribute to a supportive team environment.





- Keen to further develop your current knowledge and experience into something you can be proud of.

- Enthusiastic about becoming a valued team member in a major agribusiness.
