St Michael's Collegiate School is seeking a motivated and practical Gardener & Facility Officer to join our Property Department. This is a hands-on role that combines horticulture, grounds maintenance and general facilities support, ensuring our campuses remain safe, welcoming and beautifully presented every day.
Based primarily at our Junior School campus, you'll also support our Middle and Senior School campuses and other School locations as required.

About the Role
Reporting to the Campus Manager (with formal reporting to the Director of Business Services), you will play an important role in maintaining our grounds, gardens and facilities to the highest standards.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Maintaining gardens, lawns, landscaped areas and outdoor spaces
- Mowing, pruning, planting, irrigation, fertilising and seasonal garden care
- Undertaking general repairs and preventative maintenance
- Opening and securing school buildings and grounds
- Performing minor carpentry, plumbing and painting tasks
- Conducting routine inspections and identifying maintenance issues
- Operating and maintaining gardening equipment and power tools safely
- Assisting with school events and operational activities
- Working with contractors to support maintenance and capital works
- Contributing to a safe, attractive and welcoming setting for our students, staff and visitors.
About You
You are someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in your work and has a strong commitment to safety and service.
You will bring:
- Experience in gardening, landscaping, trades or facilities maintenance
- Strong practical problem-solving skills
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A proactive, reliable and flexible approach
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A commitment to child safety and workplace health and safety
- The ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining high standards
Essential Requirements
- Current Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (Tasmania), or ability to obtain
- Criminal History Check
- Right to work in Australia
- Previous gardening, maintenance or trade experience
- Chainsaw licence
- Commitment to completing mandatory child safety training
Desirable
- Certificate III or IV in Horticulture
- Medium Rigid (MR) Driver Licence
- Public Passenger Vehicle (PPV) Licence
- First Aid Certificate
- Experience working in a school or educational environment
