Your role at St John of God, Midland Hospital
In this role, you will provide high-quality clerical and administrative support within the Emergency Department (ED), contributing to the efficient operation of a busy 24/7 service.
You will deliver a professional reception and patient administration service, including the coordination of patient admissions, transfers and discharges, and the accurate management of patient records and data within relevant systems. The role supports patient flow by maintaining up-to-date information, managing communications, and liaising with clinical and administrative teams to ensure timely and effective service delivery.
You will act as a key point of contact for patients, caregivers and external stakeholders, responding to enquiries in a courteous and skilled manner and directing requests as appropriate. The position also supports general clerical functions, including appointment coordination, maintenance of department systems and supplies, and assisting with orientation and training requirements.
Working collaboratively, you will demonstrate strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritise in a fast-paced environment to support a responsive, patient-focused service.
We currently have Casual & Permanent Part-Time opportunities are available, with flexibility to support the operational requirements of the Emergency Department across a 24 hours per day, 7 days per week roster.
The Position
Provide clerical, reception and administrative support within the Emergency Department. Deliver professional front-line customer service and manage enquiries. Complete patient registrations, admissions, transfers and discharges accurately. Maintain patient records and ensure data accuracy in administration systems. Support patient flow through timely updates and communication.
Liaise with nursing, medical and admissions teams. Arrange patient transport and follow-up appointments as required. Maintain records, communication boards and departmental systems. Provide after-hours support for admissions, discharges and record enquiries. Undertake general clerical duties, including data entry and ordering supplies. Work collaboratively within a team and support service delivery. Perform other duties as directed. Participate in a 24/7 rotating roster.
The Position Requirements
You will demonstrate proven administrative experience, ideally within a healthcare environment, along with strong computer skills across Microsoft Office and patient administration systems. Experience inpatient admissions, discharges and medical record management will be highly regarded.
To be successful in this role, you will possess well-developed communication and customer service skills, with the ability to effectively engage with patients, caregivers and a multidisciplinary team. You will be confident working both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail are essential, along with the ability to prioritise competing tasks and maintain accurate data and documentation.
