The role of the Mainly Music Assistant is to support the Mainly Music Team Leader/Coordinator by engaging with parents and carers, providing companionship, care and support, playing with children, choosing songs, singing, and playing musical instruments.
Responsibilities
- Preparation : Use organisational skills to set up the space with refreshments, instruments, seating for parents and carers. Select songs in advance and ensure audio‑visual equipment is ready.
- During the Session : Create a welcoming atmosphere, register attendance, offer refreshments, and provide companionship to parents and carers while engaging children in musical activities.
- Facilitation : Under guidance of the team leader, lead parts of the Mainly Music group session with parents and children.
- Safety and Well‑being : Encourage safe and appropriate behaviour, guide children gently, and ensure all meal utensils, instruments and seating are cleaned and stored according to manual handling best practices.
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience working with children.
- Interest in music and education.
- Strong commitment to the Christian faith.
- Completion of a Working with Children Check (and where applicable, a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check).
Time Required & Commitment
Sessions are held on Monday mornings in Merimbula. Volunteers are expected to commit to regular, ongoing involvement to build trust and rapport with children and their parents/carers.
Background Check Requirements
All volunteer roles involving children require a Working with Children Check. Certain roles may also require a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.
