About the Role

As the Principal Engineer, you will provide senior, City-wide leadership across road and traffic engineering, driving the strategic planning, performance and long-term sustainability of the City's transport network.

You will play a key role in shaping future road and traffic programs by translating technical analysis, traffic modelling, road safety audits and asset performance data into evidence-based investment recommendations. Working closely with internal stakeholders, Main Roads WA, funding bodies and regional partners, you will influence strategic decisions that support community growth, network resilience and long-term infrastructure performance.

What You'll Be Doing





- Lead the development of long-term road and traffic improvement programs aligned with network performance, safety and risk priorities
- Provide expert technical advice and strategic recommendations to senior leadership, Council and key stakeholders
- Maintain and govern the City's road, traffic and subdivision engineering standards, specifications and policies
- Coordinate traffic planning, modelling studies and Road Safety Audits, translating findings into prioritised capital investment programs
- Manage strategic stakeholder relationships with Main Roads WA, funding agencies and regional partners to secure funding and deliver network outcomes
- Provide leadership, guidance and mentoring to engineering staff while supporting effective project delivery, asset management and continuous improvement initiatives

What We're Looking For

- Degree-qualified Civil Engineer with substantial experience in road, traffic and civil infrastructure engineering, ideally within a Local Government environment
- Demonstrated experience leading complex engineering programs, infrastructure planning initiatives and risk-based asset investment decisions
- Strong knowledge of road network planning, traffic engineering principles, road safety,



asset condition assessment and infrastructure maintenance practices
- Proven ability to develop engineering standards, policies, specifications and governance frameworks that support organisational objectives
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement, communication and negotiation skills, with experience influencing senior leaders, external agencies and funding bodies
- Strong leadership capability with experience mentoring technical teams and managing multiple priorities, budgets and projects in a complex environment
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar senior engineering role
- Significant experience within civil infrastructure, road and traffic engineering
- Current C Class Driver's Licence and a National Police Clearance (within six months)
- Project Management qualifications highly regarded
