Canberra | On-site | Federal Government ICT Sustainment and Upgrade Program

PALAS Consulting is seeking an experienced Application Support Specialist for a significant Federal Government ICT sustainment and upgrade program commencing September 2026. This is a multi-year engagement, contracted yearly with extensions, supporting the sustainment and enhancement of a complex application estate on a secure Federal Government network.

The role suits a support practitioner who takes ownership of applications in daily operational use, from incident response and troubleshooting through to release support and user enablement. You will work within a delivery team alongside developers, integration engineers and platform specialists, keeping live business applications available, performing and improving.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide application support across a mixed estate of custom built and commercial applications in daily operational use.
- Investigate, resolve or escalation incidents and problems, working within formal incident, change and release processes.
- Support application releases, upgrades and configuration changes, including verification and rollback readiness.
- Monitor application health and usage, identifying recurring issues and raising improvement opportunities.
- Maintain support documentation, known error records and standard operating procedures.
- Support and enable users, including working with business stakeholders to resolve issues at the source.

Required Experience





- Demonstrated experience supporting business applications in live production environments.
- Sound troubleshooting methodology across application, data and interface layers, knowing what to fix and what to escalation.
- Experience working within structured ITSM processes for incident, problem, change and release management.
- Clear written documentation and confident engagement with users and technical teams.
- Australian citizenship is mandatory.
- Must hold a current AGSVA security clearance.

Desirable

- Familiarity with Microsoft based application estates, including SharePoint, the Power Platform and SQL Server.
- ITIL Foundation or equivalent service management certification.
- Experience supporting applications in secure or highly governed environments.
- SQL skills sufficient to investigate data related issues.

Location and Working Arrangements

This role is Canberra based and primarily on-site. Commencement is expected from 1 September 2026, with candidates holding notice periods encouraged to apply early.
