Project Overview
A greenfield mining and shipping project focused on sustaining production, minimizing environmental impacts, and fostering local economic development.
Job Summary
Conduct field investigations and special studies for process/chemical design on large mining projects. Lead the design, development, modification, and evaluation of process/chemical components and systems. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure complex technical issues are resolved and project needs are met.
Major Responsibilities
- Evaluate, select, and apply standard process/chemical engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment in adaptations and modifications.
- Participate in design, development, and modification of process/chemical components, utilizing Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards, guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
- Coordinate work and collaborate with other engineering disciplines.
- Perform relief system design, including pressure safety valve (PSV) sizing, flare hydraulics, and radiation analysis.
- Conduct safety, environmental, and operability reviews (HAZOP, CHAP).
- Coordinate process/chemical engineering efforts with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendors, contractors, construction, and other functional groups.
- Prepare conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals.
- Provide technical assistance to other process/chemical personnel and interact with project functions, customers, and regulatory agency personnel to resolve complex regulatory issues and industry codes and standards.
- Assist project and construction management in identifying and complying with process/chemical requirements and in addressing issues during project execution.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5–8 years of relevant experience, or 9–12 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of process systems, calculations, and equipment in the mining and metals industry.
- Understanding of process deliverables across engineering project phases.
- Ability to produce process deliverables such as flowsheets, design criteria, and mass balances.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with sound report‑writing ability.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with other engineering disciplines and stakeholders.
