We're partnering with a high-growth Australian technology business looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the evolution of its cloud platform. The business has grown, acquired multiple platforms, and is now investing heavily in simplifying its technology landscape, improving developer experience, and building a platform that can support the next decade of growth.

This is a role where you'll genuinely influence engineering strategy, not just manage a team.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Director of Engineering, you'll become one of their key leadership hires and play a critical role in shaping the future of the platform engineering function.

You'll inherit an established DevOps team, but your focus won't simply be managing people. You'll partner with Engineering Managers, Principal Engineers and senior stakeholders across the business to understand where the platform creates friction, prioritise improvements and build a roadmap that enables engineering teams to move faster and deliver better products.

This is a leadership role for someone who enjoys solving complex organisational problems just as much as solving technical ones.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

- Leading and mentoring a high-performing Platform Engineering team.
- Defining the long‑term strategy for the cloud platform and developer experience.
- Building trusted relationships with engineering teams to understand their challenges and remove delivery bottlenecks.
- Balancing technical debt with future platform investment.
- Driving improvements across cloud infrastructure, automation, CI/CD, security and observability.
- Creating a platform that engineers genuinely enjoy using.
- Influencing engineering standards and best practices across multiple technology teams.
- Helping shape how modern engineering tools, automation and AI improve software delivery.





About You

You're probably already leading a Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering or DevOps function and enjoy operating at the intersection of technology, people and business.

You're commercially minded, naturally collaborative and understand that great platform teams exist to enable engineering, not control it.

You’ll Likely Bring

- Experience leading Platform, Cloud or DevOps Engineering teams.
- Strong AWS experience within modern cloud-native environments.
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code, Kubernetes, CI/CD and DevOps tooling.
- Experience developing engineering roadmaps and influencing technical direction.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to communicate with both engineers and senior business leaders.
- A pragmatic approach to technology decisions, balancing engineering best practice with commercial outcomes.
- A genuine passion for coaching people and building high-performing teams.

You’ll Stand Out If You Have

- Experience working in product or SaaS organisations.
- Led platform transformation or cloud modernisation initiatives.
- Worked within businesses that have grown quickly, scaled through acquisition or managed complex technology environments.
- Experience improving developer experience and platform adoption across engineering teams.
- Exposure to FinOps, DevSecOps or AI‑assisted software development.
