About the role

The Australian Maritime and Fisheries Academy is seeking an experienced Operations and Work, Health & Safety Manager to join our team on a full-time basis. Based in Port Adelaide, SA, this role is pivotal in ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant operation of our vocational training facilities and programmes. As Operations and Work, Health & Safety Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operational activities whilst maintaining the highest standards of workplace health and safety across our academy. This position is integral to our mission of delivering quality education whilst protecting the wellbeing of our staff, students and visitors.

What you'll be doing

1. Developing, implementing and maintaining comprehensive health and safety policies, procedures and protocols across all academy facilities and training programmes

2.



Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation including the Work Health and Safety Act and any industry-specific maritime or fisheries regulations

3. Investigating workplace incidents, accidents and near-misses, and preparing detailed reports with recommendations for preventative action

4. Conducting regular risk assessments and hazard identification exercises to identify and mitigate workplace risks

5. Understanding of relevant legislative framework and ability to understand requirements in a complex environment

6. Overseeing daily operational activities including facility maintenance, equipment management and resource allocation

7. Liaising with external agencies, regulators and safety consultants as required

8. Providing advice and support to management and staff on health, safety and operational matters

9. Managing contractors and visitors to ensure they adhere to academy health and safety requirements

What we're looking for

- Demonstrated experience working as a Health and Safety Manager (3 years minimum) or in a similar health and safety management role within a vocational education, maritime, or training environment

- Maritime qualifications or have worked with vessels.

- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment - TAE40122- desirable





- Excellent incident investigation and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyse complex situations and recommend practical solutions

- Experience in operational management and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with staff at all levels

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and health and safety management software or systems

- A commitment to continuous improvement and maintaining high standards of workplace safety culture

- Preferably, experience working in a maritime, fisheries or specialist training environment

- Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)

- National Police clearance and Working with Children Check

- Driver's licence essential
