We are currently partnering with a well-established and growing engineering consultancy to recruit a Design Technician / Junior Engineer specialising in residential foundations and retaining structures.

This is an excellent opportunity for a junior to intermediate candidate looking to build their career in a supportive, technically focused environment, with exposure to a robust pipeline of residential projects.

The Role Working as part of an experienced design team, you will be responsible for delivering foundation (slab/footing) and retaining wall design and documentation across a range of residential projects.

This role offers a strong blend of technical design and CAD drafting, making it ideal for candidates who enjoy both detailed documentation and engineering problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities

- Preparation of foundation and footing design documentation
- Design and detailing of retaining wall systems
- Interpretation of architectural and structural drawings
- Utilisation of AutoCAD and internal design tools/software
- Applying relevant Australian Standards and design principles
- Reviewing soil reports and understanding their impact on design
- Maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Managing workflow and contributing to overall team delivery
- Liaising with internal teams and responding to client enquiries





About You We are open to a range of backgrounds, including both junior engineers and experienced drafters/design technicians.

You may bring:

- 2+ years’ experience in structural, civil, or foundation design (ideal)
- OR strong AutoCAD/drafting experience within the construction industry
- Exposure to residential construction or engineering projects
- Understanding of footings, slabs, or retaining wall systems
- Basic knowledge of soil conditions and foundation behaviour
- Ability to read and interpret building plans and drawings
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn

Candidates from site-based roles looking to transition into a design-focused position are also encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

- Degree, Diploma, or Certificate in Civil, Structural, Geotechnical Engineering or Building Design,
or equivalent industry experience
