As the Public Health Nurse (PHN), you'll play a leading role in improving health outcomes for First Nations communities across the Cairns and Hinterland region. Working at the forefront of public health, you'll partner with communities, health services, and key stakeholders to deliver culturally informed programs that prevent, detect, and manage Group A Streptococcus (GAS)-related conditions. This is an opportunity to build strong community relationships, influence positive health change, and contribute to creative, community-led approaches to care.

Cairns Public Health Unit (CPHU) focuses on the health and wellbeing of populations, rather than of individuals. Cairns Public Health Unit aims to minimise the morbidity and mortality from communicable and vaccine-preventable diseases, and environmental health hazards thereby: CPHU fulfils the public health regulatory services on behalf of the Department of Health to ensure sound public health standards are maintained in communities.

About your role:
In this position you will…..
- Lead and deliver on program work to meet objectives and report against key performance indicators relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health in keeping with project timelines.
- Utilise culturally safe and appropriate practices to ensure healthcare interventions align with the needs of the community.
- Develop strong relationships with community members to gain insights into their project-related health concerns and needs and actively involve all stakeholders and community in decision-making processes with the view to negotiating mutually agreeable and appropriate outcomes from project activities.
