About Our Client Our client is a well-established, privately-owned business advisory and accounting firm based in Melbourne, with a long history of serving Australian businesses, families and property investors. The firm has built its reputation on moving beyond compliance to deliver proactive, business advice by combining traditional accounting values with modern cloud-based technology and its own proprietary business improvement framework.

The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Business Advisory Director to take ownership of a high-end client portfolio that is both well-established and actively growing. This is a senior, client-facing leadership role reporting directly to the Partners, suited to a technically strong advisor who is equally comfortable delivering complex, high-level advice and building trusted, long-term relationships with sophisticated business owners.

This role offers genuine scope to shape the growth trajectory of a premium portfolio within a firm that values initiative, technical excellence and a proactive advisory mindset, with a transparent pathway for further progression.

Key Responsibilities

Take full ownership of a high-end portfolio of privately held businesses and their owners, acting as lead advisor and primary point of contact

Deliver high-level technical and strategic business advisory services, including tax planning, business structuring, cash flow and profitability improvement, succession planning and wealth creation strategies

Identify and convert opportunities to grow the portfolio, both through deepening existing client relationships and new client acquisition

Review and oversee technical work prepared by team members, ensuring quality, accuracy and commercial relevance

Mentor, develop and lead a team of accountants and advisors,



building technical capability and a strong advisory culture

Work closely with the Partners on strategic client matters, complex technical issues and firm-wide initiatives

Apply and champion the firm's proprietary business improvement methodology to help clients measure performance, improve cash flow and plan for long-term growth

Stay current on tax law, regulatory change and industry developments, translating technical detail into practical, plain-English advice

Represent the firm externally, building its profile and referral network within the local business community

About You

CA/CPA qualified, with substantial post-qualification experience in a public practice / business advisory environment

Proven experience managing a significant portfolio of privately held business clients, ideally at Director, Senior Manager or Associate Director level

Deep technical expertise across tax, business structuring, compliance and strategic advisory

Demonstrated ability to build and grow client relationships, with strong business development instincts

Experience leading, mentoring and developing a team

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical matters into clear, actionable advice

Confident operating with a high degree of autonomy while collaborating closely with Partners

Proficiency with cloud accounting platforms (Xero highly regarded)

A genuine passion for helping business owners grow and succeed, beyond compliance
