What you'll be doing
The Clinical Superintendent in General Surgery is a twelve-month appointment to a leadership role for a recent surgical graduate with an interest in medical management and medical education. The Clinical Superintendent will work closely with the Heads of General Surgical Department, the Director Medical Services and their staff, senior medical staff, and Hospital management,
providing a key point of liaison for coordination and management of medical education, wellbeing, learning and day-to-day junior medical staff activities. The Clinical Superintendent will also undertake clinical responsibilities in a clinical discipline relevant to their qualifications and will participate in teaching, research, quality improvement and administrative activities within the respective specialty Department and Hospital as required. The Clinical Superintendent in Surgery will ensure a high standard of professional performance and encourage an academic environment which supports education, wellbeing, research and professional development.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- FRACS (or equivalent) or presenting for second part examination during the year.
- Superior cognitive technical and communication skills.
- Experienced in elective general surgery, trauma and emergency surgery. Intention to develop a career in one or more of the core specialties of the unit.
- Demonstrated surgical research experience and endocrine audit expertise.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills in a complex clinical environment.
- Overseeing and dealing with roster issues within the unit.
- Demonstrated interest and willingness to teach Junior Medical Staff and research.
