Queensland Youth Services (QYS) is seeking an empathetic, energetic and culturally responsive Connection and Inclusion Mentor to join our Flexible Learning Pathways team in Townsville. In this role, you will build trusted relationships with young people and provide individualised mentoring and practical support to strengthen their wellbeing, inclusion and participation. You will help young people connect with their identity, culture, community and learning while supporting pathways into education, training, employment or community life. You will work within a collaborative, trauma-informed team and actively participate alongside young people in learning, recreational, outdoor and community-based activities.

What You’ll Be Doing

As the Connection and Inclusion Mentor, you will:

- Build trusted relationships that affirm each young person’s identity, culture, strengths and experiences.
- Provide individualised mentoring and case support based on each young person’s needs and goals.
- Identify barriers to engagement and develop responsive support plans with young people and their support networks.
- Promote wellbeing, inclusion, participation and meaningful connections with peers, families and community.
- Support pathways into education, training, employment and community participation.
- Work collaboratively with education providers, employers and community organisations.
- Identify and respond appropriately to wellbeing and safety concerns.
- Maintain accurate, timely and confidential case records.
- Participate in supervision,



reflective practice and professional development.
- Actively participate in sports, excursions, cultural events, camps and community projects.

About You and Role Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

- A relevant qualification in youth work, community services, education, social work or a related discipline, or be working towards one. Relevant experience may also be considered.
- Experience supporting young people in education, wellbeing or community settings.
- An understanding of trauma-informed, strengths-based, culturally safe and inclusive practice.
- The ability to build trusted relationships and support young people who may have experienced disengagement, adversity or trauma.
- Strong communication, relationship-building, organisation and case-recording skills.
- An empathetic, energetic and collaborative approach, with openness to feedback and reflective practice.
- The capacity to help young people develop confidence, resilience, personal agency and meaningful goals.
- The willingness and physical capacity to travel and participate safely in recreational, outdoor and community-based activities.
- A current Queensland Driver Licence.




- A current Working with Children Check (Blue Card), or the ability and eligibility to obtain one.
- A Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check, or the ability and eligibility to obtain one.
- The right to work in Australia.
