WML Consultants is an engineering consultancy with offices in Bunbury, Kalgoorlie and Perth, specialising in Civil, Structural, Geotechnical and Pavements Engineering. WML require a qualified, motivated and focused Principal Civil Engineer to join our West Perth Team. This role will design and manage the technical aspects and resources of Civil Jobs within the Perth Office. The project range includes institutional, industrial, commercial and residential buildings, mine structures, bridges, drainage and coastal structures. Please note this role is a full-time position.
Our successful candidate must have the following essential requirements:
- A Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Civil Engineering, or a demonstrated equivalent level of skill, knowledge and experience;
- Minimum of 15 years’ engineering experience (Grad +15 years and greater);
- Demonstrated comprehensive skill, knowledge and experience in the following:
- Networking and client relationships;
- Competitive pricing of requests for quotes/tenders;
- Establishment and management of design teams;
- Civil, road and drainage design;
- Civil, road and drainage construction;
- Project management of civil, road, drainage, water supply, sewerage and/or coastal engineering projects;
- Superintendence and contract administration of civil, road, drainage, water supply, sewerage and/or coastal engineering projects.
- Knowledge of policies and practices relating to Work Health and Safety;
- Knowledge of policies and practices relating to Quality Management.

KEY DELIVERIES OF THE ROLE
Supervision and Management
- Manages WML client expectations with project deliverables;
- Manages Civil Group resources to meet agreed schedules, budgets and performance levels;
- Establishes and leads project teams;
- Executes projects utilising the WML Consultants Quality Management System, and in special cases a Quality Management System specified by the Client;
- Directs and guides design and drafting staff and checks their work for compliance;
- Mentor’s engineering staff in improving their skills and building their careers.
Design
- Prepares engineering designs for various civil,
road and drainage projects in accordance with the relevant Australian and Western Australian standards and codes of practice;
- Undertakes research, training and development to improve or maintain skills in one or more related fields such as geometric road and intersection design, transportation planning, traffic analysis, drainage design, waterways design, geotechnical investigation and design including location and testing of natural materials, pavement design and seal design;
- Undertakes to research and include innovation in design solutions where appropriate;
- Prepares engineering reports and contract documentation;
- Consults approving authorities and agencies, and complies with mandatory requirements;
- Carries out design checks on own work and the work of others.
Project Management
- Manages the scoping, pricing, project development, design, delivery and review of projects, and management of assigned projects;
- Contributes to the development, maintenance and improvement of project management processes and systems within the Company.
Contract Management
- Prepares contract documentation and manages the contract tendering process;
- Superintends and manages contracts and contractors to ensure that contracts are completed to approved scope, budget, time and quality;
- Reviews and report on the performance of both contracts and contractors;
- Manages contract payments, claims and variations;
- Undertakes contract management duties as appointed;
- Contributes to the development, maintenance and improvement of contract management processes and systems within the Company.
External Relationships
- Represents the Company with honesty and integrity.
- Consults and corresponds with Clients for job management purposes.
- Consults and corresponds with Clients and potential Clients to acquire business.
- Responds promptly to Client requests.

Civil Group
The Civil Group's work can be seen throughout regional WA: Large sections of the Forrest, South West and Coalfields Highways have been built and improved based on WML designs and specialist technical advice. Our focus is to explore the potential opportunities and eliminate geotechnical risk through precise investigation and analysis to ensure that our clients projects are delivered as protected and cost effective as possible. Our consultancy services include, but not limited to, ground modelling and geotechnical analysis, geotechnical and remediation design, slope stability analysis, consolidation studies, earthwork design and construction support, geotechnical site investigation, temporary works design, verification and peer review and much more.
Pavements Group
Our Pavements Group combines extensive soils knowledge and comprehensive data analysis to provide sound site development solutions across the state, providing investigation and design for all types of pavements and all pavement loadings. Our pavement design services include urban and rural highways, local roads, airstrips, haul roads and industrial pavements. The team also offers materials sourcing as part of our comprehensive pavement and surfacing design capabilities. Their intimate knowledge of material characteristics and behaviour as well as their experience in locating, evaluating and managing material stocks throughout the state ensure cost-effective and durable pavement solutions.
