About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Automotive Retail Assistant to join the team at Cheapa Auto Spares Townsville. This is a full-time position based in Townsville, QLD, where you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional customer service and supporting the day-to-day operations of our busy automotive retail/trade store.

As a Retail Assistant, you will be the face of our business, helping trade and retail customers find the right parts and products whilst maintaining a well-organised and welcoming retail environment. This role is essential to our success, as you will directly contribute to customer satisfaction, sales performance, and the overall reputation of Cheapa Auto Spares.

What you'll be doing

1. Greeting customers and providing friendly, skilled service to all shoppers visiting the store
2. Assisting customers in locating automotive parts and products, offering expert advice based on their vehicle requirements
3. Processing transactions accurately using the point-of-sale system, handling cash and card payments with care
4. Maintaining the retail floor, shelving and displays to ensure a clean, organised and visually appealing shopping environment
5. Restocking shelves with automotive parts and products, ensuring adequate inventory and proper labelling
6. Answering customer enquiries by phone and in person, providing information about product availability and pricing
7. Supporting the identification and resolution of customer concerns or complaints in a professional manner
8. Keeping up to date with product knowledge, including automotive parts, tools, and accessories stocked in the store
9. Contributing to a positive team environment and supporting colleagues during busy periods

What we're looking for

1. Previous experience in a retail environment, ideally in automotive or a related sales role
2. Strong customer service skills with a genuine passion for helping others and resolving their needs
3. Knowledge of automotive parts, vehicles, or mechanical components—or a keen willingness to learn
4. Excellent communication abilities, both verbal and written, with the capacity to explain technical information clearly
5. A reliable, punctual and professional attitude with a commitment to attendance and workplace standards
6. Proficiency with point-of-sale systems and basic computer skills
7. The ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced retail setting
8. Physical capability to lift, carry and store automotive products, some of which may be heavy
9. A positive, enthusiastic approach to work with a willingness to go the extra mile for customers
10. Basic numeracy skills and the ability to handle cash transactions accurately
11. Preferred: Experience in the automotive industry or familiarity with vehicle maintenance and repair
