The role
A federal government department is looking for a Senior AI Engineer to design, build and ship secure, governed AI solutions that support real business and cyber security outcomes. You will build AI agents, retrieval augmented generation (RAG) pipelines and Copilot style tools on the Microsoft stack, integrating them with existing systems, APIs and data sources across the department.
You will work closely with business stakeholders, cyber security specialists, data teams and architects, taking ideas from concept through to production while keeping governance, security and responsible AI principles front of mind.
About you
- Hands on experience designing, building and deploying enterprise AI solutions using Azure AI services, including tools like Azure AI Foundry, Copilot Studio or AI Agents
- Practical experience building RAG solutions and integrating AI with enterprise systems, APIs and databases
- Comfortable building and improving front end experiences for AI powered tools
- Experience with AI testing, evaluation and assurance work such as bias testing and explainability
- Solid communicator who can translate business problems into working AI use cases and bring stakeholders along
- Able to obtain a Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance (Australian citizenship required)
The offer
- 12 month initial contract, with a further 12 month extension option (up to 2 extensions)
- Hybrid working, three days in the Canberra office and two from home
- Senior level role (EL1 equivalent) working alongside cyber security, data and architecture specialists on high impact, nationally significant systems
