CBC Fremantle is a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice tradition for boys in Years 7-12. Founded by the Christian Brothers in 1901, the College has served the local Fremantle community for over a century helping families to raise boys who continually strive for excellence and who exhibit Catholic Leadership in their quest to establish a more just and peaceful society.

The Deputy Principal – Mission and Identity plays a critical role in ensuring these Touchstones are lived authentically throughout all aspects of College life.

Position Purpose

The Deputy Principal – Mission and Identity is a member of the College Leadership Team and is responsible for leading and promoting the Catholic and Edmund Rice identity of the College.

The role provides strategic leadership in faith formation, Religious Education, liturgy, retreats, social justice, service learning, immersion experiences, First Nations education and reconciliation initiatives.

The Deputy Principal – Mission and Identity ensures that the College's mission is visible in its culture, programs, relationships and decision-making processes while fostering a vibrant faith community where students and staff are challenged to grow spiritually, intellectually and socially.

The position actively contributes to the strategic leadership of the College and works collaboratively with all members of the College Leadership Team to advance the College Strategic Plan.

The successful candidate will be a visible and authentic faith leader who inspires others through their witness, relationships and commitment to the Gospel. They will understand that mission is not a department within the College but the lens through which all aspects of College life are viewed, ensuring that every CBC boy is formed not simply as a student, but as a young man of faith, service, justice and compassion.

Key Selection Criteria

The successful applicant will:

- Maintain active membership of the Catholic Church and give witness to their personal faith and commitment by integrating a Catholic vision in all areas of their responsibility and being a faith leader in the College.

- Have completed, or be close to completing, the requirements for Accreditation to Lead in a Catholic School.

- An understanding of and commitment to the charism, values and mission of Edmund Rice Education Australia.

- Be an outstanding contemporary educator who will lead and model teaching and learning within the CBC Journey context.

- Be an active member of the CBC Fremantle community with a strong commitment to promoting and supporting the varied aspects of College life.

- Clearly exhibit leadership characteristics including competence, reliability, vision, integrity, diligence and commitment to professional growth.

- Have excellent interpersonal skills which promote positive and mutually beneficial relationships and the ability to work and lead effectively in a team environment.

- The capacity to lead faith formation, liturgy, retreats, service and mission programs.

- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and leading reconciliation initiatives.

- Strong understanding of Religious Education curriculum requirements and contemporary faith formation practices.

Key Responsibilities

1. Catholic Identity and Edmund Rice Mission

The Deputy Principal – Mission and Identity:





- Provides vision and leadership for the Catholic and Edmund Rice identity of the College.

- Promotes and embeds the Touchstones of Edmund Rice Education throughout College life.

- Leads the implementation of the EREA Charter and Touchstone Framework.

- Ensures Catholic Social Teaching informs decision-making and strategic priorities.

- Develops and implements a comprehensive Mission and Identity strategic plan.

- Builds the faith formation capacity of staff and students.

- Represents the College within EREA, CEWA, parish and wider Church communities.

- Leads initiatives that strengthen Gospel Spirituality and the distinctive culture of CBC Fremantle.

2. Leadership of Religious Education

Working closely with the Head of Religious Education, the Deputy Principal – Mission and Identity will establish a strong relationship with the HOLA and work collaboratively to:

- Provide strategic oversight of Religious Education curriculum and pedagogy.

- Ensure compliance with CEWA and Church curriculum requirements.

- Promote excellence in Religious Education teaching and learning.

- Support the professional growth and Accreditation of Religious Education staff.

- Lead curriculum review and innovation in Religious Education.

- Oversee faith formation opportunities within the Religious Education program.

- Monitor student engagement and achievement in Religious Education.

3. Leadership of Campus Ministry, Liturgy and Retreats

The Deputy Principal – Mission and Identity will work closely with the Retreats Coordinator to oversee and support the planning, delivery, and evaluation of all student retreat and reflection programs.

- Provides leadership to the Campus Ministry Team.

- Oversees the annual liturgical calendar.

- Leads the planning and implementation of College Masses, liturgies and prayer experiences.

- Coordinates sacramental and parish partnerships.

- Ensures meaningful student participation in prayer and worship.

- Assists the Retreats Coordinator in all retreat and reflection programs for students.

- Develops opportunities for staff spiritual formation and retreat experiences.

4. First Nations Education and Reconciliation

The Deputy Principal – Mission and Identity holds direct responsibility for the College's First Nations strategy and programs.

This includes:

- Providing leadership and advocacy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

- Overseeing the academic, cultural and pastoral support structures for First Nations students.

- Developing and implementing the College Reconciliation Action Plan.

- Building authentic partnerships with local Aboriginal communities and Elders.

- Lead the College’s engagement with MADALAH, fostering opportunities that support the educational achievement, cultural identity and leadership development of First Nations students.

- Promoting understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal spirituality, culture and history.

- Ensuring Indigenous perspectives are embedded across curriculum and College life.

- Leading cultural celebrations, awareness initiatives and community engagement activities.

5. Service, Justice and Solidarity

The Deputy Principal – Mission and Identity:

- Provides leadership for all service-learning and social justice programs.

- Ensures opportunities for service are authentic expressions of Catholic faith and Edmund Rice values.

- Oversees partnerships with charitable organisations and community agencies.

- Leads advocacy and awareness initiatives connected to justice and solidarity.





- Develops a culture where service is understood as a lifelong commitment rather than a transactional activity.

- Coordinates College fundraising and outreach initiatives.

- Organise a staff service day biennially.

6. Immersions and Experiential Learning

The Deputy Principal – Mission and Identity:

- Provides strategic leadership of all immersion experiences.

- Ensures immersion programs align with the College mission and formation goals.

- Oversees domestic and international immersion opportunities.

- Develops partnerships with Edmund Rice ministries and communities, especially EREBB.

- Ensures robust risk management and educational outcomes for immersion experiences.

- Facilitates opportunities for students to engage with issues of justice, equity and human dignity.

7. Staff Faith Formation and Leadership Development

The Deputy Principal – Mission and Identity:

- Develops and implements a comprehensive staff faith formation program.

- Supports Accreditation and ongoing formation requirements.

- Leads EREA induction programs focused on Catholic and Edmund Rice identity.

- Mentors leaders in mission-centred leadership practices.

- Builds the capacity of all staff to contribute to the mission of the College.

8. College Leadership

As a member of the College Leadership Team, the Deputy Principal – Mission and Identity:

- Contributes to strategic planning and policy development.

- Supports the Principal in the leadership of the College.

- Leads designated College committees and working groups.

- Contributes to school improvement, governance and risk management processes.

- Promotes a culture of excellence, accountability and continuous improvement.

Position Details

- Commencing 1 January 2027.

- The contract of employment is for a term of ten years subject to successful formative and summative reviews during the second and fifth years, respectively. At the conclusion of the ten-year period, the position will be advertised with the incumbent welcome to re-apply.

- 0.2 Teaching Load.

- The remuneration for this position will be commensurate with CEWA Deputy Principal salaries according to qualifications, skills and experience.

- The Deputy Principal – Mission and Identity should expect that they will be required to work flexible hours, including attendance at meetings and College functions as part of, or in addition to, normal working hours. Several duties and responsibilities will need to be performed at times other than during the school day or when students are in attendance. The Principal reserves the right to amend the role and its responsibilities to meet the evolving needs of the College.
