Senior Procurement & Contract Management Specialist
Rate: $950–$1,000 per day, inclusive of superannuation
Location: Canberra Airport, ACT
Contract: 31 August 2026 to 31 July 2027
Clearance: Baseline security clearance required
Canberra Consulting is seeking an experienced Senior Procurement and Contract Management Specialist to support a major Commonwealth Government agency with a complex program of contract amendments, procurement activities and commercial advisory work.
This is a senior, hands-on role requiring advanced knowledge of Commonwealth procurement frameworks and demonstrated experience managing complex contract changes involving legal, commercial, governance and operational stakeholders.
The successful candidate will support the planning, development, approval and execution of contract amendments required to transfer significant program responsibilities between Commonwealth entities. All contractual changes must be implemented by 30 June 2027.
Key responsibilities You will:
- Plan, schedule and estimate the activities required to deliver complex contract amendments and associated procurement outcomes.
- Develop and maintain contract change proposals, contract variations, work orders, evaluation documentation, approval records and governance artefacts.
- Provide strategic advice on complex procurement, contracting, commercial and contract management matters.
- Interpret and apply the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013, Commonwealth Procurement Rules and associated Commonwealth policies and guidance.
- Identify, assess and manage procurement, commercial and contractual risks.
- Work closely with legal, privacy, procurement, governance and subject-matter specialists.
- Support stakeholder consultation and commercial negotiations with internal and external parties.
- Prepare and quality-assure briefs, submissions, governance papers, correspondence and procurement documentation.
- Resolve issues affecting the timely approval and implementation of contractual changes.
- Provide accurate and timely advice to support senior-level governance and decision-making.
About you To be successful, you will bring:
- Substantial experience delivering complex procurement and contract management activities within the Australian Government.
- Strong knowledge of Commonwealth procurement legislation, policies and governance frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing contract variations and contract change proposals.
- Experience providing strategic commercial and procurement advice on complex or sensitive matters.
- Strong risk identification, assessment and mitigation capabilities.
- Highly developed written communication skills, including experience preparing executive briefs, submissions and approval documentation.
- Proven ability to negotiate, influence and collaborate across legal, commercial, operational and senior executive stakeholder groups.
- The ability to work independently as an advanced practitioner and deliver high-quality outcomes within firm deadlines.
- Experience working within Defence or another complex Commonwealth environment will be highly regarded.
Mandatory requirements
- Australian citizenship.
- A current Baseline security clearance that can be maintained throughout the engagement.
- Availability to commence on or around 31 August 2026.
- Ability to work from Canberra Airport, with versatile working arrangements subject to agency approval.
Engagement details
- Daily rate: $950–$1,000, inclusive of superannuation.
- Contract term: 31 August 2026 to 31 July 2027.
- Hours: Eight hours per day, five days per week.
- Location: Canberra Airport, ACT.
- Flexible work: At the discretion of the agency.
- Extensions: None currently available.
- Travel: Not required.
