The Role

The clinician will participate, as part of a multidisciplinary team, in providing comprehensive, specialist and early intervention mental health service to young people aged 12-25 years who are referred to the Continuing Care Team of the Early Psychosis Youth Service (EPYS).

As part of the multidisciplinary team, the clinician will coordinate comprehensive, specialist and early intervention mental health care and provide specific psychological and psychosocial interventions tailored to meet the individual needs of young people aged 12-25 years who are referred to the EPYS service and work within an optimistic, hopeful recovery framework.

Duties and Responsibilities for the Position

Service Excellence

§ Practice according to the EPYS philosophy, standards, guidelines and protocols of the service.

§ Coordinate comprehensive, specialist and early intervention mental health care and provide specific psychological and psychosocial interventions tailored to meet the individual needs of young people and within an optimistic, hopeful recovery framework.

§ Participate within a multidisciplinary team delivering evidence-based interventions for young people in the EPYS service, in consultation with the Team Coordinator and senior clinical staff across the program.

§ Carry a caseload of young people within the Continuing Care Team (CCT).

§ Provision of mental health assessments, including completion of mental state examination, risk assessment, case formulations and individual treatment planning.





§ Provision of case management and evidence-based psychological and psychosocial therapeutic interventions that promote recovery for the young person and their family, based on a cognitive behavioural case management approach.

§ Consultation, liaison and linkage with internal and external service systems to provide a full range of tailored interventions for young people with a first episode of psychosis.

§ Crisis response and home-based assertive outreach as required, to facilitate engagement and treatment with a young person and their family/significant others.

Risk Management

§ Ensure that service delivery complies with legislative requirements and the policies and procedures of Black Swan Health and EPYS.

Quality

§ Contribute to the development of a culture of quality and innovation, ensuring the continuing improvement of clinical service delivery.

§ Actively participate in quality and innovation activities and individually strive for continuous quality improvement and service innovation.

Client Experience

§ Actively engage with young people, their families and significant others in the delivery of the service.

§ Contribute to the development of a culture in the CCT that is young person centric and optimistic, empathic and recovery focused.

§ Other duties as required.

The successful candidate will have

§ Relevant tertiary qualifications and registration with AHPRA or membership with an appropriate professional body:

o Registered Mental Health/Psychiatric Nurse

o Occupational Therapist

o Psychologist (Registration with AHPRA as a Registered or Clinical Psychologist)

o Mental Health Social Worker

o Social Worker

§ Demonstrated experience in clinical practice within the mental health field, ideally with young people experiencing mental health disorders in particular first episode psychosis.

§ A high level of interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), problem solving and negotiation skills and demonstrated ability to consult, liaise and negotiate with team members, other professionals and outside agencies.

§ Demonstrated ability to engage and work collaboratively with young people and their families/significant others.





§ Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality assessment and evidence- based psychological interventions, within a stress-vulnerability and recovery framework for young people.

§ Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and function autonomously while being able to effectively work in a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable

§ Knowledge of early psychosis rationale and principles including the developmental stages of young people and the impact that a first episode of psychosis has on their development and the impact on the family/significant others.

§ Knowledge of relevant legislation such as the Mental Health Act including proposed reforms and the Children, Youth and Families Act and any other relevant legislation.

§ Sound knowledge of and, ideally, experience in working with young people who have experienced a first episode psychosis and their families in both a case management and therapeutic role.

§ Ability to use relevant Information Technology and electronic client recording systems and data management tools.

Requirements for Employment

§ National Police Clearance.

§ Working with Children Check.

§ Current Driver’s Licence and own vehicle for work purposes.

§ Hours of Work – weekdays, some flexibility may be required
