The opportunity
Aries Rail is seeking a skilled Plant Mechanic to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and servicing heavy vehicles, plant, earthmoving equipment, and specialized rail equipment. This role involves both workshop and field service duties, including 24/7 callout availability, ensuring our customers and Aries Rail's fleet is always operational and safe.

Key Responsibilities:
- Maintenance & Repair: Conduct routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on heavy vehicles, earthmoving machinery, and rail equipment.
- Field Service: Provide on-site maintenance and repair services,
including responding to emergency breakdowns and unscheduled repairs. Candidates to expect to be away at least one week per month.
- 24/7 Callout: Be available for on-call duties to respond to urgent repair needs, ensuring minimal downtime for essential equipment. Candidates to expect to be on call at least one week per month.
- Service Reports: Prepare detailed service and maintenance reports, documenting all work performed, parts used, and future maintenance recommendations.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while performing duties, ensuring a safe working environment.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other team members, providing support and expertise to ensure the efficient operation of the equipment fleet.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Experience: Proven experience as a plant mechanic, preferably with experience working on heavy vehicles, earthmoving equipment, and rail machinery.
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems, diesel engines, electrical systems, and mechanical components.
- Certifications: Relevant trade qualifications and certifications.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose complex mechanical issues and implement effective solutions.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, particularly in preparing detailed service reports.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, to meet the demands of the job.
