McGregor Tan Research
Adelaide
Join one of Australia’s most respected independent research agencies and help turn evidence into insights that matter.
McGregor Tan is looking for a curious, capable and thoughtful Market Research Executive to join our Insights team.
This is a varied role for someone who enjoys solving problems, understanding people and working with both words and numbers. You may be analysing survey data one day and helping facilitate an interview, focus group or workshop the next.
We are looking for someone who can turn curiosity into thoughtful questions, analysis into clear insights, and those insights into engaging conversations that help clients and participants make sense of complex issues.
You will contribute across the research process, from understanding a client’s needs and helping articulate the research problem through to developing questionnaires and discussion guides, conducting research, analysing quantitative and qualitative findings, facilitating discussions, preparing reports and presenting the story behind the evidence.
The role would suit someone beginning or building a career in market and social research who wants to become a genuinely mixed-methods researcher—someone able to analyse evidence, understand people and confidently facilitate conversations that lead to insight and action.
Previous research experience would be valuable, but we are equally interested in people with strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills who are ready to develop their capabilities.
What you will be doing
As part of our Insights team, and working closely with our recruitment, fieldwork and Data Operations teams, you will:
- contribute to research design, including helping clients define and articulate the research problem
- support the successful delivery of quantitative, qualitative and mixed-method research projects
- develop questionnaires, discussion guides and other research materials
- plan and support interviews, focus groups, workshops and other qualitative research activities
- facilitate research conversations in a way that encourages participation, keeps discussions focused and draws out meaningful insights
- turn curiosity and analysis into thoughtful questions, productive discussions and clear outcomes
- listen carefully, probe beneath initial responses and adapt your approach as discussions develop
- help participants and clients work through complex issues, different perspectives and emerging findings
- review, analyse and interpret survey data, interview findings and open-ended responses
- identify the patterns, differences,
themes and findings that matter
- bring quantitative and qualitative evidence together to develop a fuller understanding of the research problem
- create clear charts, presentations and written reports
- turn research findings into meaningful insights and practical recommendations
- contribute to the design and facilitation of client workshops that explore findings, implications and next steps
- check data, interpretations, calculations and reports for accuracy and consistency
- communicate professionally with clients and keep them informed throughout their projects
- contribute to client presentations and research discussions
- manage timelines, priorities and multiple project responsibilities.
What we are looking for
You are likely to be someone who:
- is naturally curious and able to turn that curiosity into thoughtful questions
- is equally comfortable engaging with people, working independently with data and contributing to a group discussion
- can listen closely, think on their feet and ask the follow-up question that gets beneath the surface
- can create an environment where people feel comfortable contributing while keeping a conversation purposeful and on track
- can work confidently with numbers while also interpreting language, context and human behaviour
- can interpret what they hear, connect it with other evidence and identify what matters
- has the confidence and presence to develop into an effective interviewer, moderator and workshop facilitator
- can find and explain the story within both quantitative and qualitative evidence
- writes clearly and can turn complex findings into an engaging and coherent narrative
- communicates ideas clearly and can help a group move from information to understanding and action
- has strong attention to detail and takes pride in producing accurate, polished work
- is organised, dependable and comfortable managing competing priorities
- communicates professionally and builds positive working relationships
- enjoys contributing to a cooperative team
- takes initiative while also knowing when to ask questions or seek guidance.
Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills are important and will make your working life considerably easier.
Experience with Q, SPSS, Displayr, R or other analysis and data visualisation tools would be advantageous, although training can be provided.
Experience conducting interviews, focus groups, workshops or other qualitative research would also be valuable, but is not essential.
A qualification in market research, business, data science, economics, psychology, sociology, anthropology, behavioural science, social science, mathematics, communications or marketing would be useful, but it is not essential. Relevant experience, demonstrated ability and the right mindset are equally significant to us.
