Shape systems change in Australia’s employment sector
WhiteBox is seeking experienced strategy, transformation, corporate development and M&A; professionals to help shape the next chapter of Social Enterprise in Australia.
We're anticipating a significant pipeline of work spanning strategy, transformation, business growth, partnerships, acquisitions, investment and systems change.
The work will be ambitious. The path won't always be defined. The potential impact could be a game-changer that could transform the lives of people living with disability, and for the right people, an opportunity to bring world-class capability to work that matters.
This is an opportunity to join at the beginning of this exciting work and can be based remotely with accessibility to Meanjin/Brisbane, Eora/Sydney or Naarm/Melbourne preferred so you can be a key part of our team. Occasional travel is required to support the relational nature of the work.
Why WhiteBox?
Most organisations focus on improving the system they operate within. WhiteBox exists to help build what comes next.
Working alongside disability enterprises, social enterprises, governments, funders and industry leaders, you'll help develop new models, create current opportunities and influence how inclusive employment evolves in Australia.
Success isn't measured by presentations or reports.
It's measured by organisations transformed, opportunities created, barriers removed and change that lasts.
The Strategy Manager role
Lead complex work that creates real-world outcomes.
As a Manager, you'll lead project delivery, partnering with organisations to navigate growth, innovation and transformation.
You'll combine analytical rigour with relationship-building, helping clients move from ideas and strategy into implementation and impact.
This role will suit someone who enjoys solving challenging problems while remaining close to the people, organisations and outcomes involved.
Success Profile
You'll likely thrive in this role if you:
- Have built trusted working relationships with CEOs, executives and operational leaders, helping guide organisations through significant growth, transformation or change initiatives.
- Draw on strong strategy, transformation,
commercial or advisory experience developed through consulting, corporate, government, for-purpose or similarly complex environments.
- Have translated ambiguous opportunities into business cases, implementation plans and practical recommendations that have led to measurable organisational outcomes.
- Have led complex workstreams from discovery and analysis through to implementation, successfully balancing stakeholder needs, delivery pressures and organisational realities.
- Are experienced facilitating workshops, executive discussions and decision-making processes that build alignment and move organisations from analysis into action.
- Can demonstrate tangible outcomes you've helped deliver, whether through commercial uplift, organisational transformation, operational improvement, employment outcomes or social impact.
- Understand how change happens in practice, adapting your approach to the context, culture and readiness of each organisation rather than applying a standard consulting playbook.
Who We're Looking For
We're interested in people from backgrounds including:
- Management Consulting
- Strategy & Transformation
- Corporate Strategy
- Corporate Development
- M&A; and Transaction Advisory
- Public Sector Advisory
- Economic Development
- Innovation and Ventures
- Business Growth and Market Development
Experience in for purpose or NFPs are essential – you will know how to lead effectively in our sector.
What matters most is your ability to navigate complexity, build trusted relationships and turn ambitious ideas into practical outcomes.
We're particularly interested in people who are excited by the opportunity to work alongside organisations navigating significant change, and who recognise that meaningful transformation is built through partnership, trust and persistence.
How We Work
The strongest contributors at WhiteBox combine ambition with humility, and expertise with curiosity.
They align without compromise to our values – the bold vision of ‘Moonshot’; the pragmatism of ‘Figure-outable’; the co-creation in ‘Better Together’; and the data drive of ‘Evidence Matters’.
They're intellectually rigorous and commercially minded, but just as comfortable listening as they are leading.
They know that trust is often a prerequisite for transformation.
They ask questions before offering answers.
They are comfortable leading when needed and stepping back when others have the expertise.
And they're motivated by creating lasting impact rather than personal visibility.
Join us at an interesting moment
Some of our best work is already underway and some of our most exciting opportunities are still taking shape.
We're building a team for what comes next and are looking for curious, thoughtful and capable people who want to contribute to ambitious work with the potential for significant impact.
If you're looking for work that is intellectually challenging, commercially rigorous and socially meaningful, we'd love to hear from you. We're assessing as we go, so don't delay in getting your application in.
Your covering letter, with a max 1000 words, should include:
- What's motivating you to apply for this role?
- A brief overview of your experience and how it aligns with the role.
- Describe a complex strategy, transformation or organisational change project where the path forward was not clearly defined. How did you structure the work, build stakeholder alignment, and help move the organisation from analysis to implementation? What was your specific role, what outcomes were achieved, and what did you learn?
- Let us know your ideal hours, salary expectations, availability (including start date or time away), and anything else that helps us understand your fit.
With diversity comes great success. We encourage and celebrate applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people living with disability, LGBTQIA+ community, women, and people re-entering the workforce.
