Organisational Profile
Our client is a highly regarded organisation with a significant national presence and a proven track record of success within their sector. Employing hundreds of staff across multiple sites, they are continuing to invest in their people, systems and operational capability. Due to ongoing growth, they are seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to become the subject matter expert for payroll across the business. Working closely with Finance and People & Culture, you will enjoy genuine ownership of the function while playing a key role in ensuring payroll accuracy, compliance and exceptional employee service.
About the Role & Responsibilities
Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will be responsible for the end-to-end management of payroll operations across the organisation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Processing payroll across multiple entities for approximately 500 employees nationally
- Ensuring compliance with Awards, Enterprise Agreements and relevant payroll legislation
- Managing payroll tax obligations and superannuation payments
- Processing new starters, terminations, leave requests and payroll adjustments
- Maintaining employee records, contracts and onboarding documentation
- Responding to payroll-related enquiries from employees and stakeholders
- Producing payroll reports, reconciliations and statutory reporting requirements
- Supporting compliance activities and maintaining audit-ready payroll processes
- Assisting the People & Culture team with HR administration and employee lifecycle activities
- Identifying opportunities for payroll process improvements and efficiencies
- Providing broader administrative support across the Finance function, including expense management, corporate card administration and compliance reporting
Ideal Candidate
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Demonstrated experience managing end-to-end payroll in a medium to large business environment
- Robust understanding of payroll compliance, including STP, payroll tax, superannuation and year-end obligations
- Experience working across multiple Awards and EBAs
- High levels of accuracy and attention to detail
- The ability to work autonomously while managing competing priorities
- Robust communication skills with a customer-focused approach
- Proven stakeholder engagement and relationship management capability
- A proactive mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement
