Job Description
Placed.au is looking for full-time Chef and Restaurant Manager professionals for our client in Melbourne, Victoria. These roles are responsible for delivering exceptional dining experiences through high-quality food preparation, efficient restaurant operations, excellent customer service, and effective team leadership. The Chef is responsible for food preparation, kitchen operations, and maintaining food quality and safety standards, while the Restaurant Manager oversees the day-to-day management of the restaurant, financial performance, staff development, and customer satisfaction.
Chef Job Description
- Prepare, cook, and properly present food for regular service.
- Collaborate with the other chefs and owner to plan and develop recipes and menus, considering seasonal ingredient availability, expected customer numbers, portion sizes, and menu pricing.
- Coordinate effectively with the kitchen team to ensure meals are prepared to a consistently high standard and served in a timely manner.
- Check the quantity and quality of received products to ensure they meet ordering specifications and quality standards.
- Prepare meals according to established recipes while maintaining consistently high-quality standards.
- Monitor and maintain stock levels to minimise wastage.
- Order food and other kitchen supplies as required.
- Train junior kitchen staff through on-the-job coaching and approved external training where appropriate.
- Ensure all Occupational Health and Safety requirements are followed by kitchen staff.
- Ensure kitchen equipment is operated correctly and all refrigeration and cooking equipment maintains appropriate operating temperatures.
- Work within budgets established by the Restaurant Manager.
- Ensure food safety and sanitation practices are consistently maintained.
Qualifications / Attributes
- Must hold a Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, or at least three (3) years of relevant work experience may substitute for the formal qualification.
- Must possess at least one (1) year of relevant work experience as a Chef or in a similar commercial kitchen role.
- Strong knowledge of food preparation, menu planning, kitchen operations, and food safety standards.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and train junior kitchen staff.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Robust attention to detail and commitment to food quality and presentation.
- Ability to work effectively within a team while maintaining high culinary standards.
Restaurant Manager Job Description
- Oversee the daily operations of the restaurant.
- Manage financial performance and implement initiatives to improve profitability.
- Monitor food and beverage quality to ensure consistently high standards.
- Collaborate with management to prepare budgets and implement cost control measures.
- Work with management and kitchen staff to develop menu items based on customer preferences, seasonal ingredients, and budget requirements.
- Price food and beverage items in accordance with budget objectives while identifying opportunities to improve profitability.
- Develop and maintain inventory systems and accurate records of stock and financial transactions.
- Liaise with suppliers to order inventory while ensuring purchases remain within budget.
- Engage with patrons to ensure customer satisfaction and resolve concerns professionally.
- Address customer complaints by identifying improvement opportunities and communicating them to staff.
- Recruit, supervise, train, and support restaurant staff.
- Conduct regular staff training to maintain service standards and operational procedures.
- Record daily sales and prepare end-of-day reports.
- Develop and implement marketing strategies to attract and retain customers.
- Prepare staff rosters to ensure adequate staffing levels while controlling labour costs.
- Organise special functions and ensure appropriate staffing arrangements.
- Ensure restaurant cleanliness and compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards.
Qualifications / Attributes

Salary Range $75,000 – $85,000 per annum excluding superannuation.
