About the role

Kuranda and Mareeba Veterinary Services is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Nurse to join our team in Kuranda, QLD 4881. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in providing exceptional animal care and supporting our veterinary surgeons in delivering high-quality veterinary services. As a Veterinary Nurse, you will be at the heart of our practice, ensuring the wellbeing of our patients whilst maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare and clinical excellence.

Key responsibilities

- Assisting veterinary surgeons during surgical procedures, including instrument preparation, sterilization and theatre management

- Our Veterinary Nurses work all areas of the practice from reception, to surgery to attending call outs with our vets.

- Providing pre- and post-operative care to animals, including monitoring vital signs and managing recovery protocols

- Conducting routine clinical assessments and diagnostic procedures under veterinary supervision

- Administering medications, vaccinations and other treatments as directed by the veterinary surgeon

- Performing venipuncture, blood sampling and laboratory testing procedures

- Providing nursing care to hospitalized animals, including feeding, wound care and hygiene management

- Maintaining detailed and accurate clinical records and patient documentation

- Operating and maintaining veterinary equipment, including sterilising instruments and managing stock levels

- Communicating compassionately with clients regarding their animal's care, treatment plans and recovery progress

- Supporting the wider veterinary team in maintaining a clean, safe and organized clinic environment

- Contributing to animal welfare initiatives and promoting best practice animal health and safety standards

What we're looking for

- Current cert Iv in Veterinary Nursing preferred but not a requirement

- Demonstrated experience working in a veterinary practice environment would be preferred, but experience working with animals considered

- Strong knowledge of veterinary nursing principles,



clinical procedures and animal care protocols

- Excellent animal handling skills with the ability to work calmly with stressed or anxious animals

- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with clients and team members

- Meticulous attention to detail with excellent organisational and time management abilities

- Commitment to maintaining high standards of hygiene, biosecurity and animal welfare

- Physical fitness and the ability to lift and restrain animals safely

- Enthusiasm for continuing professional development and staying current with veterinary nursing best practices

- A genuine passion for animal welfare and a commitment to providing compassionate care
