The Technical Sales Engineer drives profitable revenue growth across the full WWS offering that includes design & construct projects, plant upgrades and refurbishments, packaged plant and pumpset supply & install, equipment hire and operations & maintenance services including parts and chemicals.
The role owns the front end of the sales cycle. This will include the following:
1. identifying and qualifying opportunities
2. building sustainable and lasting relationships with mining, industrial and municipal clients across WA
3. shaping fit-for-purpose technical solutions with our engineering team
4. converting client requirements into winning, commercially sound proposals which close to meet budget
Role’s key responsibilities
Business development & pipeline
- Plan, execute and follow up sales activities in line with the WWS sales strategy and defined processes.
- Identify, qualify and pursue new opportunities across the mining & resources, industrial and municipal sectors, maintaining a healthy pipeline across all WWS service lines.
- Identify new markets, applications and service offerings and contribute to the ongoing development of the sales strategy.
Client relationships
- Establish new, and maintain existing, long-term relationships with clients at both site and corporate level, including regular visits to operations across regional WA and WWS North West Hub
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and delivery partners to reduce commercial risk and maximise future business opportunities.
- Represent WWS at industry events, exhibitions and association forums.
Technical solutions & proposals
- Provide pre-sales technical assistance by interpreting client water quality data, discharge/reuse requirements and site constraints to recommend fit-for-purpose treatment, pumping and dosing solutions.
- Prepare technical and commercial proposals, budget estimates and tender submissions in cooperation with the design, engineering and estimating team.
- Present proposals to clients and lead clarification and negotiation meetings.
Commercial
- Negotiate tender and contract terms with clients to meet both client and company needs, escalating in line with delegation of authority.
- Meet agreed order intake, revenue and margin targets.
- Ensure a clean, well-documented handover of secured work to the project delivery and operations teams.
Market intelligence & reporting
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of competitor products, pricing and activity, and of client capital and sustaining works programs.
- Maintain accurate CRM records of contacts, activities and opportunities; provide monthly pipeline, forecast and activity reporting to the General Manager.
HSEQ & compliance
- Work within WWS's ISO 9001/14001/45001 certified integrated management system.
- Comply with all client site access, induction, medical and safety requirements, and positively represent WWS's safety culture in every client interaction.
Selection criteria
Essential
- Demonstrated technical sales or business development experience in water/wastewater treatment, pumping systems, industrial services or related capital equipment.
- Sound technical aptitude, demonstrating the ability to understand various treatment processes and pumping/hydraulic fundamentals and articulate solution benefits credibly to technical and non-technical clients with ease.
- Solid relationship-building, communication and presentation skills.
- Commercial acumen that is demonstrated by the candidate being comfortable with estimating inputs, margins, contract terms and commercial risk.
- A hunger for achieving sales targets, with a proactive, organised and self-managed approach to territory and pipeline management; confident using our Netsuite CRM and Microsoft Office tools.
- Current WA driver's licence and the ability to travel regionally, including occasional fly-in site visits; able to pass client medicals and site inductions.
- Full and valid working rights in Australia.
Desirable (highly regarded but not essential)
- Tertiary qualification in chemical, environmental, civil or mechanical engineering (or science), or a relevant trade background with practical knowledge and commercial ability are key.
- Existing relationships within the WA mining & resources sector and familiarity with major-miner procurement processes (vendor panels, RFQ portals, contractor management systems).
- Working knowledge of biological treatment (SBR, MBR, fixed-film), potable water treatment, chemical dosing and associated instrumentation, filtration, solid-liquid separation

Agreed annually with the General Manager and expected to include: order intake against target; pipeline value and conversion rate; margin on secured work; client contact and site visit activity; proposal quality and turnaround; and CRM data currency.
