The BelRose Group has been exclusively engaged by Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority to recruit two Non Executive Directors to its Board.

PAHSMA was created to preserve and maintain the Port Arthur Historic Site and now manages Port Arthur Historic Site, Coal Mines Historic Site and Cascades Female Factory Historic Site. The sites are part of the Australian Convict Sites World Heritage Property and carry significant obligations for conservation, interpretation and visitor experience. PAHSMA operates at the intersection of heritage stewardship, tourism and sustainable commercial performance.
Role overview
The Board provides strategic oversight, guides management and supports sound governance across a complex statutory authority. Current priorities include financial sustainability and conservation. The Board is seeking two directors who bring strong governance judgement and specialist capability in either Tourism and Marketing or Heritage and Conservation.
The Tourism and Marketing Director will bring Board level insight across destination positioning, visitor economy trends, audience development, brand reputation, digital engagement and commercial visitor experience.
The Heritage and Conservation Director will bring credible expertise across heritage conservation, cultural heritage management, archaeology, built heritage, interpretation, collections, asset stewardship or related public interest settings.
Key responsibilities
- Contribute to Board strategy, governance, risk oversight and long term performance
- Support decisions that balance visitor outcomes with heritage and conservation obligations
- Provide informed specialist advice within the role stream you are appointed to
- Work constructively with fellow Directors, the Chair, Chief Executive Officer and senior management
- Attend Board meetings and contribute to relevant committee work
- Declare and manage actual, potential and perceived conflicts of interest
- Uphold confidentiality, public accountability and the values of PAHSMA
Ideal profile
- Prior Board, committee or senior governance experience
- Specialist experience in Tourism and Marketing or Heritage and Conservation
- Strong strategic judgement and capacity to contribute at Board level
- Understanding of statutory authority, government business or public purpose environments
- Ability to assess risk, performance, stakeholder impact and long term sustainability
- Collegial style with the confidence to challenge constructively
- Commitment to the care, interpretation and public value of Tasmania’s historic sites
Rewards and benefits
Board fees are $15,084 per annum, in line with the Tasmanian Government Board Fee Policy. Committee fees are not payable. Meetings are generally held at least five times per year and alternate between Port Arthur and Cascades Female Factory in Hobart. Committee service is expected, including Audit Risk and Governance, People and Culture or Port Arthur Conservation Advisory Committee involvement.
