About the role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated compliance professional to lead our Private Works Compliance team in delivering fair, consistent and customer‑focused regulatory outcomes across the community.
We are growing and modernising Council’s compliance functions and the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in delivering fair, effective and consistent compliance and education relating to works and activities undertaken to mitigate adverse impacts to nearby residents, the wider community, and the local workplace. In this leadership role, you will guide a new team responsible for land‑use, development, and building‑related compliance focused on private land, including regulatory activity within Council’s holiday parks. You will provide operational leadership, mentor and support staff, coordinate complex compliance matters, and ensure activities are undertaken in accordance with legislation, Council policy and best‑practice standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor and performance manage the Private Works Compliance team.
- Coordinate investigations and enforcement activities relating to development, land use and building compliance.
- Deliver proactive, strategic and customer‑focused compliance services.
- Ensure accurate evidence gathering, record keeping and compliance documentation.
- Support legal proceedings and represent Council in Court where required.
- Assist in developing policies, procedures and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, government agencies, businesses and the community.
About You
- Experience leading regulatory compliance or enforcement teams.
- Strong knowledge of development, land use and building compliance legislation.
- Excellent investigation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Sound judgement, professionalism and a balanced approach to compliance.

Explain the challenge, how you managed the situation and communicated compliance requirements, the outcome, and any lessons you learnt to improve future relationships and interactions.

This position is located at Council’s Grafton Office, however, this may change should business needs identify other work locations to be more appropriate to deliver our services in the future. A probation period applies to this position.
