AVI is a Myaree based vertically integrated manufacturer of advanced communication equipment. We develop and supply solutions for mining and defence globally and produce scientific instrumentation for the SKA radio telescope in the Murchison region of WA.
The Opportunity
The Senior Legal Counsel will be given the prospect to provide advanced legal support across commercial, contracts, IP, ICT, risk management, employment law and compliance matters.
You will act as a key advisor within the Governance and Legal team, leading complex drafting, negotiation and review of legal agreements together with supporting the General Counsel with strategic legal initiatives, contract governance and internal policy development.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts, including technology supply agreements with a focus on intellectual property and ICT related issues, construction contracts, engineering services and procurement agreements.
- Assist the business with general legal matters including, property acquisitions and negotiation of leases, IP and ICT related matters, employment law matters.
- Conduct legal risk assessments for proposed projects, partnerships and client engagements.
- Support legal compliance with employment law, cyber security and other regulatory obligations.
- Management of legal queries and matters raised by the business.
- Support the General Counsel in strategic legal initiatives and key legal decisions.
- Assist in the development and management of AVI’s contract management framework.
- Liaise with internal teams to ensure contracts align with operational capacity and strategic intent.
- Contribute to tender documentation and review of legal content in client submissions.
- Maintain legal registers, templates and precedents.
- Mentor junior legal staff and support internal training sessions where required.
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum 5 years of post-admission experience in corporate or commercial law, ideally with some in-house experience or with exposure to ICT, IP, manufacturing, or construction sectors
- Strong working knowledge of commercial and contract law, IP and ICT, and employment law
- Skilled in drafting, negotiating and managing a variety of contracts and legal documents
- Excellent written and verbal communication and the ability to distil legal language into business terms
- Ability to manage sensitive legal matters and multiple concurrent priorities
- A technical background in ICT or engineering will be advantageous

Mandatory Requirements
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD)
- Holds (or eligible to hold) a current Practicing Certificate issued by the Legal Practice Board of Western Australia
