Centralian Today and Tennant Creek Today are seeking a journalist to join our editorial team on either a full-time or part-time basis, based in Alice Springs.

This is more than just a journalism role. It is an opportunity to experience life in one of Australia’s most iconic regional cities, surrounded by the spectacular landscapes, rich cultures and unique communities of the Red Centre.

From major community issues and local personalities to tourism, business, sport, the arts and the extraordinary stories of outback Australia, no two days will be the same.

You will cover stories for both Centralian Today and Tennant Creek Today, developing robust community contacts and reporting on the people, events and issues that matter across Central Australia and the Barkly.

Your work will include:

- Researching and writing local news and feature stories

- Interviewing community members, business leaders and decision-makers

- Attending community events, meetings and major regional occasions

- Taking photographs and producing content for print and digital platforms

- Developing trusted contacts throughout the region

- Identifying the stories and issues that deserve greater attention

The role may suit an experienced journalist, a recent university graduate, a cadet or someone seeking a regional reporting opportunity that offers genuine responsibility, variety and the chance to make an impact.

Flexible full-time or part-time arrangements may be considered, depending on the experience and availability of the successful applicant.

About you

The successful candidate will ideally have:

- Journalism experience or a relevant university qualification

- Strong writing, interviewing and communication skills

- Photography skills

- A natural curiosity and enthusiasm for finding excellent local stories

- The ability to work autonomously and as part of a broader team

- Excellent time management and organisational skills

- Strong people skills and the confidence to build relationships across diverse communities

- An interest in the people, cultures, issues and opportunities of Central Australia and the Barkly region

- A current driver’s licence

Previous experience in regional news media is desirable but not essential.

What matters most is your enthusiasm for journalism, your willingness to become part of the community and your desire to tell important stories from one of Australia’s most distinctive and fascinating regions.
