Mechanical Design Engineer

Capital Cranes & Hoists (AUST) Pty Ltd is a leading Western Australian manufacturer specialising in the design, manufacture, installation and servicing of overhead cranes, hoists and customised lifting equipment. We deliver engineered lifting solutions to the mining, industrial, manufacturing and infrastructure sectors across Australia.

Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Maddington, WA. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys taking ownership of projects from concept through to manufacture while working closely with workshop, project and customer teams.

About the Role

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for designing overhead cranes and customised lifting equipment, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in compliance with Australian Standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Design overhead cranes, hoists and customised lifting equipment using Space Gass and AutoCAD.

- Prepare engineering calculations, technical documentation and detailed manufacturing drawings.

- Ensure designs comply with relevant Australian Standards, customer specifications and internal quality requirements.

- Liaise with customers, suppliers, project managers and workshop personnel throughout the project lifecycle.

- Develop practical engineering solutions for custom lifting applications and contribute to continuous product improvement.

- Manage multiple engineering projects while delivering quality outcomes within budget and schedule.

About You
Essential

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification.

- Demonstrated experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer or similar role within heavy industry, manufacturing, structural steel or materials handling.

- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD or comparable 3D CAD software and Microsoft Suite.

- Strong understanding of mechanical and structural engineering design principles.





- Experience preparing engineering calculations, technical documentation and manufacturing drawings.

- Working knowledge of relevant Australian Standards.

- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

- Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving abilities.

- Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently with minimal supervision.

Desirable

- Experience in the overhead crane, lifting equipment, materials handling, structural steel or heavy manufacturing industries.

- Experience working on mining or industrial projects.

- Knowledge of fabrication, machining and welding processes.

- Familiarity with Australian Standards including AS 1418, AS 2550 and AS 4100.

- Experience preparing engineering calculations and lifting equipment certification documentation.

- Willingness to undertake occasional site visits throughout Western Australia.
