Opportunity Overview

The Centre for Health Economics (CHE) and collaborators are funded by the MRFF for the PAtient‑Centred Evaluation of medical devices (PACE) program. The project aims to improve how medical technologies are assessed by incorporating patient perspectives. WP‑1 focuses on analysing past funding decisions; WP‑2 builds an evidence base of real patient experiences through surveys and experiments.

Roles & Responsibilities

- Undertake research in WP‑1 or WP‑2 based on supervised PhD training.
- Design and administer survey instruments incorporating stated‑choice experiments (WP‑1).
- Collect and analyse patient and public primary data using quantitative methods (WP‑1).
- Apply large‑language‑model techniques to code administrative data and identify factors influencing funding (WP‑2).
- Maintain a tailored training programme in theory and methods,



including advanced coursework and hands‑on experience.
- Collaborate with research teams at Monash, University of Sydney, Deakin University and University of Technology Sydney.

Qualifications

- Completed an Honours, bachelor’s or master’s degree with excellent results in a quantitative discipline such as economics, psychology or econometrics.
- Research component in the chosen discipline.
- Strong interest or background in health policy, health economics or public health.
- For WP‑1: aptitude for survey design, experimental design and mixed qualitative‑quantitative data analysis.
- For WP‑2: aptitude for coding administrative data and using advanced quantitative methods.

Program Structure
